Hi Iversen,

how intersting that you mentioned both my nicknames in your last post! Thanks for your help trying to reactivate my old account. I chose to name my new one Lassus, as you can see. I just wanted to ask one thing: Would it be possible to inform the Admin about the problems with my old account? I guess he could reactivate it, if he wanted to. I would have written you a PM, but as a newbie I can't do that. Thank you!

Josquin

Welcome back. The recent pattern has been that our Administrator has been active when the whole forum was in jeopardy, but generally not in cases that just concerned single members, so I doubt that he would intervene here. But it would of course be worth a try sending an email.

I have a preference for instrumental music so in my cassette collection people like Josquin and Lassus are only represented by short pices played on instruments alone - 18½ minutes for Josquin and 8½ for Lassus. The first composer with several hours of music in my collection is Giovanni Gabrieli (148 min.), closely followed by Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck (126½ min.). Minutewise J.S. Bach is at the top with 959,5, followed by Beethoven with 918½ minut - and I remember that it was a fight to find music by the 'low end' composers and keep down the representation of those at the top end - even when I generally avoided dublets like the plague.

Apart from that I have spent the last three days in the company of my family, and the presence of family members is not conducive to hard studying. I have finished my Italian astronomical magazine, and I have of course watched some TV in different languages - but my mother's immense hornbeam ('avnbøg') has developed its usual opulent foliage since my last visit in April, and consequently her Astra reception has gone on forced summer holiday until the leaf falls in the fall.

As part of an attempt to make hospitals less scary and confusing for ordinary Danes several hospitals are in the process of finding new names for their Departments. One of these projects (in Region Midtjylland) has also been through the Facebook mill, which according to the magazine Midt resulted in some quite creative proposals for new names:

Draculas Slot (Dracula's Castle): Klinisk immunologisk afdeling, which among other things is responsonsible for tapping blood from donors

Pusherstreet (the name of a place in Christiania in Copenhagen, where cannabis and other drugs are openly sold): Anæstesiologisk afdeling, which is responsible for anaesthesia and pain relief

Tankekirurgi ('thought surgery'): Hjerne- og Neurokirurgisk Afdeling, which deals with operations in the brain, spinal cord and nerveous system.

Hollywood: Plastikkirurgisk afdeling, where among other things facial reconstructions after accidents and operations are performed

Hud og hor (Skin and adultery - a wordplay on "med hud og hår" (with skin and hair = everything)): Dermato-venerologisk Afdeling, where skin and veneral diseases are treated.

Some clever names there! Met huid en haar (Mit Haut und Haar) are the same expressions in
Dutch and German (though I am sure you knew about the latter). I wonder if the Swedes
have an equivalent.

Afdeling is also the same word in Dutch, just I am not sure if the pronunciation is the
same.

Checked Forvo, it's indeed not the same. Would be recognisable somehow I guess.

And to boot, I have sent the summary of my speech to the organizers of the conference in Novi Sad. It is a strange feeling to write a summary so far in advance, and time will tell whether I can follow in the footsteps of the summary during the actual speech. The people in Berlin have not asked for any summary, and that's more my style. A summary is for me something you write after the event, based on a recording or your memory.

I'm by no means a native speaker of Russian, but I tried to fix your little text. There were some problems with cases and with aspects. Because you first studied one article and then another, you would use the perfective aspect, so it's изучить instead of изучать. There's no contradiction between both clauses, so it's better to use и instead of а for saying "and".

Maybe, a native Russian speaker could verify my corrections.
