Leuk!
Farvel,
Fasulye-Babylonia
PS: I think it's because a scientific discussion of theories is involved as I am now more interested in astronomy (and paleontology).

----------
I have once again had the pleasure of reading the Latin newspaper Ephemeris, with stories about the international Court in the Hague that has ruled that a small island in the Black sea belongs rightfully to Ukraine and not to Romania, - and I ask myself why the name of the latter is given as "Dacoromania". It was "Dacia" at Trajan's time and "Romania" or something similar in all modern languages, so why...? Besides I read about Obama's oath, where it is stated that Lincoln invented the thing about swearing with your hand on the bible. Also about a couple of colliding satellites (well what did you expect? - with so much junk up there?) and something about an eloped fradulous billionaire named Stanford. But not much about science this time.
And then a terrible tale: I was sitting in the bus back home from work, reading - somewhat belatedly, I confess - a collection of Christmas stories or rather essays in Low German by a certain Gerd Spiekermann. Then suddenly a small history about a man that likes to listen to music in his car (and who has had a couple of beers too much). He knocks a small girl down. Scheisse! "You have run my sister down", says her brother (a small boy). OK, next scene - in the hospital. "You have run my sister down". Enter a poor old clueless woman, it's the grandma who looks after the children. "You have run my sister down". Child gets scolded for saying bad things about the nice man who brought sis to the hospital. "You have run my sister down". "Child!!" .. The nice man wonders whether he can get back home before midnight, and yes - he is allowed to leave. Back into the car, the music turned way up and off he is. Happy man, justice in action or what. And then I sit there in the bus with my adrenalin level so high that the stuff dripples out of my ears and my peace of mind is totally shattered. If I had wanted that to happen I wouldn't have bought a collection of Christmas tales with a thick red man on the cover, I would have borrowed a thriller or some horror or Dostoyevsky at the local library, and then I would have known beforehand what I was in for. But not with an innocent collection of Christmas tales. So dear Mr. Spiekerman, either you behave in the future or you will be kicked back unto the book shelf, and there you can gather dust until Hell freezes over and the Moon gets seven tartan-coloured corners.. VERSTANDEN ??

I don't think this is true, since Washington was also sworn in on a Bible. In America
it's pretty standard practice to swear on the Bible that it would seem odd not
to...
Obama did use Lincoln's Bible, though, for his first swearing in (the second "redo"
was without a Bible).

Culpa mea - Lincoln wasn't the first president to use a Bible at the ceremony, but as Recht writes Obama used Lincoln's Bible at his own inauguration ceremony:
"His verbis dictis, Baracus Obama novus praesidens USAe factus est, manu dextera attingens eadem Biblia sacra, quibus olim Abraham Lincoln usus erat."
Literal translation: (By) having said these words B.O. has been made the new president of USA, his right hand touching that sacred Bible which Abraham Lincoln once used.

DANSK NR.1
jeg = I
ikke = not
meget = much
med = with (edit!)
sprog = language(s)
meste = most
tiden = time
pa (with accent) = on
laese = read
om = about
ogsa (with accent) = also
emne = subject
men = but
uden = without
at = that
store = big
by = town
ellers = otherwise
og = and
forsoger (with accent) = try
svar = answer
sager = things
noget = some
af = from
fra = from
EN: As everyone can see, these are keywords, which can be found in every Danish text many times, so I should know them by heart to aquire a passive reading ability of Danish texts. In the future I will extract more of such important words and collect them in my new Danish vocabulary book.
As Danish is a mere "side activity" for me and no official study project, this small dosis of Danish is enough for me right now.

One correction: "with" may etymologically be related to "ved", but the meaning of "ved" is either spatial, something like "at" ("ved huset"="at the house"), or it is used in expressions like "ved hjælp af", "ved at gøre noget" ("with the help of/by").
If you use "with" to imply following something or bringing something, then the proper Danish translation is generally "med".
