Making sentences?

Adding those cards is quite easy. You can either rip them from native material or add
examples from for instance Yahoo dictionary (I advice against using Jisho.org's example
sentences.)

Also, what do you do with words that have a billion different defintions, like かける、
姿、 etc?

Well if it's a billion ill edit the definition that rikai-sama gives to make
it smaller and use the one that's relevant to what I'm studying. I'm
thinking of actually editing all the definitions to make them more
compact. I'm manually typing in definitions for my Spanish cards
and they're so much more concise and easier to study.

I'll check out yahoo for some example sentences.

Well this site is going even slower than usual. I think I've spent 20 minutes getting to a point where I can
update... (not all due to the site but still). Anyway. Japanese starts Monday. I am still mildly worried that
they will cancel it. We're up to 12 students and at any other place that I've went to in the past I wouldn't be
concerned at all but this place is cancel happy. I think they want 20+ per class or something.

I was reading potter again last night. Previously I had the furigana add on going but I'm trying it without.
I'm more happy with myself when I can read stuff without any help at all so I'm going to keep that up for a
bit. And the etext looks better before furigana inserter reformats it.

I'm finding there's plenty of Spanish vocab that doesn't want to stick in my head either. Alcochar for
example (if I'm remembering it right) which means to quilt. It's been in the srs deck for several days and
every day I see it it confounds me. It's weird because some new Spanish words stick so well I probably
don't even have to add them to the deck.

I'm a bit behind on my Japanese vocab and grammar srs. I intend to catch up today.

Crepúsculo is getting a little tiresome. It's definitely a romance story. It started off with a bit if suspense
and mystery but now she's just pining over this guy. I'm still interested for now and expect to finish the
book but might not want to read any of the sequels.

This weekend I need to review what we did last semester for Japanese on Monday. It's hard to believe that
class is starting up again. I'm so used to my time being my own now.

I forgot to post this. Switched to my PC for a real keyboard - somehow my typing app gets confused on this site and moves the cursor around the text when it's not supposed to. Anyway - I got a new kindle. The e-ink one with the led backlight. The light is incredible! Ultimately that was why I got it when I started reading ebooks in Spanish again in bed I realized I really really wanted that even though I have a light in my room next to my bed. It's just so nice. It has a higher resolution for the etext too but I don't notice that as much. I do notice that it's more responsive than last years which is nice for looking up words which I do a lot obviously. Last year's isn't too unresponsive but faster is nicer.

This one supports Japanese fonts. I think they look really nice. I have a Japanese ebook that i downloaded on Amazon and I was trying it out. I bought a Japanese/english dictionary on the kindle store that's compatible with the kindle's lookup feature and it does a good job - BUT - selecting the word you want to look up is kind of annoying. I'm not sure what the most efficient way to do it is so I'm playing with that a little but I'm a bit afraid there isn't really a great solution. The problem is no spaces. The computer doesn't automatically know the word boundaries like it does for almost every other language in the world. (almost). Rikai-sama/chan is so awesome in that it usually can pick out the correct boundaries and highlight the word etc. for you. So I kind of expected this when I bought the kindle so no big disappointment.

But I started getting interested in reading ebooks in Japanese and now I'm wanting to figure out how to remove the DRM on kindle books so I can load them on the PC and read them in Firefox with Rikai. It can be done if the websites telling you how on Google are to be believed. I recall being interested in this before a while back (like 2 years ago probably) when I initially got my 1st kindle and was frustrated with the lack of text to speech for non English titles. I never successfully removed a DRM on a kindle book though. It was really a pain and I just gave up and found other ways to get the books. Ironic that I -wanted- to pay for the books but their restrictions and protections just made it too inconvenient.

If anyone knows of a Japanese pop up dictionary similar to Rikai for Firefox but for portable devices let me know. Similar in that it can parse the word and look it up for you and be incredibly awesome like the PC version. I was using my iPad to control my PC remotely in bed on my iPad and that's not too bad but would be nicer if the iPad could do it natively. Or any portable device.

I got a new touchscreen laptop. 500 bucks plus tax isn't too bad. I'm
thinking I'm going to return it though even though it's a pretty sweet
little device. It's the Asus 200e. I was pretty blown away with how
responsive the screen was in the store and imagined myself rearing
japanese using rikai in bed and everywhere. I could do that sort of
but it's not the dream that I had envisioned. A big part if that is that
Firefox doesn't even have a metro version out yet. Well there's an
alpha version you can get but you have to kind to some walk
throughjjust to get it up and running and from what I read (info was
allittle dated from late November) they have a ways to go before it'll
be ready beyond alpha. I somehow don't expect it to work so well
with rikai and all and I'm not super excited about the touch pad. It
works don't get me wrong but I think I rather prefer using my iPad
and remote accessing my desktop instead. This is a pretty good
laptop though and Internet Explorer looks really sweet on it.

It would be nice if my journal bookmark went right to where I left off
last time. We'll I'm somehow feeling burned out on Japanese. Crap. I
can motivate myself to watch anime atm and that's it. Hope this is a
passing thing.

Wow! Three posts and two technical devices since I went to bed last night! I enjoy reading you log, even if I don't always know what you're talking about.

Do you do a lot of quilting? It's certainly not a word I need every day.

Yeah I'm finding it hard to get my focus back on Japanese right now too. It's happened before, and I know it will pass!
