I suppose the Japanese version of the Little Prince that is in the public domain is
this one: 1953 星の王子さま Hoshi no Ōji-sama 内藤 濯 Naitō Arō Which I suppose is this one: http://www.alz.jp/221b/aozora/le_petit_prince.html (Not knowing any Japanese, it's difficult to tell..) Le Petit Prince has been translated into Chinese over 50 times (see http://www.cjvlang.com/petitprince/index.html ), but I think these are all quite recent, and are still under copyright. There are two Persian versions I have found online. Only a few people ended up registering on the site and contributing texts/corrections.
It looks like running the site as a volunteer-based project is unrealistic. But no problem, that was probably to be expected. I am waiting for 'The Little Prince' to go into the book wholesaler networks in the UK, and appear on Amazon etc. There are copies currently in the distributor's warehouse ( http://www.baylanguagebooks.co.uk/ ). If that project turns out to be a success, I will continue to produce more materials, also using more recent copyrighted texts. Doitsujin and Montmorency, and others in this thread. I will contact you when the project starts to move in the new direction. I'm still happy to accept requests, make alignments, and create final PDFs of edited files. The Persian/English book 'The Blind Owl' will be available worldwide on Amazon in 4-5 weeks if all goes smoothly. I'm still advancing slowly but surely on the Dumas novel. It's been a nice refresher for my French.
Once a few projects have reached a more final state, I think we can probably expect more volunteers. Until then, I think we can make do with what we've got. The most time consuming (at least, it was previously) is the initial alignment. After that, it's mostly just (a lot of) fine tuning. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

still stands if DavidW is interested. Hello. I've been lurking around for awhile now trying to find links to English-German parallel texts. Anyways, I should be able to host any parallel texts of public domain works for at least a year on my server. I'm not sure I have the resources to host the accompanying audiobooks however. AFAIK, there's no website that hosts free parallel English German texts. The closest thing to free parallel texts is this website, which hosts some out-of-copyright 19th century translations of German books and the German originals. As you might imagine, the language is a bit old-fashioned.
Mobileread hosts a couple of free German books some of which have been translated into English or are translation of English books. I'd recommend Edgar Wallace's 1928 crime novel The Twister, which has been translated as Ein gerissener Kerl. Both books can be downloaded for free from Mobileread as ePub books. Since I am finding out that there is a paucity of German parallel texts, I'm considering scrapping my German project for one or two years and focusing on Russian instead. I've only spent 50-60 hours on German so it isn't a huge loss. I really want to do this L-R thing - I'm planning on spending 2-3 weeks in total isolation without an internet connection so that I can focus on it for 12-15 hours each day of those weeks. On-topic: How can I help this project move forward? Do you want somebody to help you edit/refine your texts, DavidW? If so, which texts? 1 person has voted this message useful |
