For all the time and effort I have spent in learning korean, I probably could have picked up a second job :) However, four years into this I can still say to myself this stuff is ultra-potent.

And who cares about money if you are having loads of fun?

Op, op, op, Oppan gangnam style!

There are probably a lot of reasons but I think that gangnam style sure promoted the
language.

Psy's sudden viral popularity explosion with that song certainly didn't hurt the overall popularity of Korean media in general, though the global popularity of Korean media has been rapidly rising for quite a few years now (mostly due to K-pop and K-dramas).

I studied Korean for a few months (back in the 2000ies), but the complexity of Korean phonetics and grammar put me off. Mandarin is much easier than Korean, and Mandarin music is just as good (Jolin Tsai rocks!).

Indeed. Same goes with Japanese. A lot of people get interested in learning Japanese,
thanks to K-pop, Anime, Manga etcetera.
