I woke up today from a dream where I travelled in Italy. I had forgotten my passport at home, and I had forgotten wy wallet in my room at the far end of a large resort, and the chamber maid had forgotten to close to door after clearning it up - but at least my wallet lay smack in the middle of my bed. I wonder what I have forgotten in the real world?

My Bahasa is getting better and better - now I can sometimes read whole sentences without looking words up, but I still keep my dictionary within reach. Yesterday evening I worked once again on excerpts from my two parallel brochures from Singapore.
Besides I listened to music by the baroque composer Jaan Pieters Sweelinck, - not everybody's cup o'tea, but I like it.

I have spent the weekend i Odense in Denmark because of a meeting in my travel club. Odense is known as the home town of the composer Carl Nielsen and the poet Hans Christian Andersen (whose museum and childhood home I of course visited). The name of the town means "dedicated to Odin", but there are no traces of a temple for Odin - probably it was just a wood with rotting corpses hanging in the trees - after all Odin reportedly sacrificed himself to himself and hang 9 days and 9 nights in a tree to get wiser (a strange way of doing this, if you ask me). Later on it was the place where the Danish king Canute the (socalled) Holy was killed while praying in Sct. Albani church. He had demanded high taxes and called for a large fleet to assemble in the Limfjord in order to attack England ("udbyde leding" in Danish), and there it waited for months on end without the king being able to make up his mind about what to do with it. So the Jutish gentry decided that 'nough was 'nough, and they chased him right down to Odense where they killed him and 17 of his housecarls including his brother Benedict. Canute was probably the least saintly king you could imagine, but the cunning men of the church got him sanctified by the pope in Rome - as the first Danish saint. And now you can study the skeletons of him and his brother in the crypt below the cathedral of Odense. The most striking thing is how small those guys where - almost like modern school kids!
I brough some bilingual Bahasa/English texts, a language guide and a dictionary. And then I began to make a collection of sentences and expressions that might come in handy later when I'll be making my Bahasa video - because sooner or later I will of course succomb to the temptation of making such a video. In this way I can hopefully create a sphere within the language where I can express myself more or less freely, which is preferable both to learning some text by heart or reading it aloud.

I would be surprised if The Netherlands and Belgium didn't have some good science magazines in Dutch/Flemish, but I haven't been down there since I began to study that language seriously so I don't have any of them on paper. Therefore it is very welcome that those magazines also are represented on the internet.
Apart from that: I did in fact succomb to a sudden mad impulse to record a video in Bahasa Indonesia ... without having heard more than a couple of hours of the language since last summer (and then it was the Malaysian version). So it would be slightly unexpected if anybody could understand what I say that video. But now it's done and I can relax again.
