Yesterday evening I was looking through the Linguaphone Finnish course and I think I have to work it in to my study routine for Finnish, since it appears to be a bit more in depth than the Teach Yourself course. What that means is that I will now be using both courses, which I prefer and hopefully I will learn more ways to write and say things.
For Swedish, I continued learning (or maybe reviewing) basic vocabulary. But that will be discussed in another post, so I don't throw my study schedule into disarray. This afternoon I've been attempting to study Spanish and Afrikaans simultaneously. Well, almost simultaneously; I decided to compare the texts of the first chapter of Genesis in the Bible by reading aloud one verse in Afrikaans and then the same verse in Spanish just to test my vocabulary and practical grammar knowledge in both languages. By practical grammar I mean trying to deconstruct actual sentences to spot similarities and differences in word order. It's also fun to practice pronunciation in two languages because my tongue occasionally gets confused by the different sounds, but the good news is my brain does not get confused by switching languages. I can't wait to try this with Swedish and Finnish in a few months.

I've been re-reading my old log and I just rememembered that I never did continue explaining the conjugations for the subjunctive mood in Spanish. So I will now briefly discuss a few irregular verbs:
dar estar ir ser
yo dé esté vaya sea
tú des estés vayas seas
Usted dé esté vaya sea
nosotros demos estemos vayamos seamos
Ustedes den estén vayan sean.
Estoy muy cansado ahora, y yo traduciré algunas canciones mañana.
Buenas noches

går kväll läste jag en artikel
World Language Finnish -
Utopia som författaren konstaterar att "...Finnish was and is by far the easiest
of the foreign languages I have learnt". Jag är inte säker på att jag håller med
honom, jag tror jag har lärt mer svensk ord. Jag vill inte säga finska språk är svart,
men förra året var jag ibland lat.
I morgon ska jag spanska och finska skriv.
Hej då
Mick
PS. There are probably loads of errors in my Swedish, but I'll work on those later;
right now I have to study math.
EDIT: Corrected a few errors

Yo no continuaré descuidar español.
Buenas noches

I haven't done as much language learning this week as I would like, thanks to eyestrain headaches and the need to frantically study for a biology test I will take 1 March. The teacher only told the class about the third biology test last Monday giving us only a week to learn 4 chapters of new material.
I did do some language learning this week, with extra focus on Finnish. I am looking for a Finnish-English dictionary to buy since I have not translated any songs into Finnish yet since using online dictionaries for translation is too inefficient. I decided to slightly change my study schedule: Monday, Wednesday and Friday I study Afrikaans and Finnish; Spanish and Swedish on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. I needed to make the change because doing scriptorium for Spanish and Afrikaans on the same day is too much for me to handle right now, besides this schedule feels more natural.
But that's enough about personal stuff for now. I've been thinking about tracking how many hours I spend on studying languages daily or weekly which is new territory for me. You may remember that when I started this log, I wrote that I needed more specific goals so that I would actually make progress. I have never before recorded precisely how much time I spend studying languages for a few reasons: 1. I usually treat detailed schedules as suggestions rather than definite plans I must strictly follow. It is also true I am sometimes inconsistent in my language learning and I had assumed that listing how many hours I spent on language learning would only show how much more time I could spend studying in a given day if only I didn't do things like eat, sleep, study for school and read other posts in this forum. 2. I also spend a lot of time listening to music and online radio broadcasts, often while doing other studying activities, thus listening time isn't easily tracked, especially since I consider any audio input in my target languages to be valuable input whether I understand it or not.
But apart from the listening that I do; I also use the Teach Yourself series and other courses. Studying using courses is something that I can keep track of and starting next week I will in one post a week include how many hours I spend studying out of books. This will be done on a trial basis, but I hope this will motivate me to become more organized and more focused in my studies.
I just remembered that I never completed a song translation for Spanish so I will do that before my next post.
Hasta luego
Mick

Ek weersin my biologie lektor, Hoekom weersin ek my lektor? Ek wens my klas kon meer besprekings oor toepaslik dinge het, in plaas van egter anders vervelig doseer oor syne politiek, of daagliks nuus. My vriende sê "Jy lektor is oud, en miskien hy kan maklikke kranksinnig word." maar ek is seker hy is nie so oud nie, hy het gesê hy is ses-en-veertig. Ek wil nie meer oor my biologie lektor kla nie.
Ek dink nie as ek sou vannag meer studeer doen nie, sedert ek sal hokkie speel.
Nothing significant, I'm mostly complaining about my biology teacher. Tonight I will be playing hockey.
Totsiens

This week hasn't been a good one for me at all, I'm not doing well in my biology class so I've been studying more biology and less languages lately. This also explains why I haven't posted a Spanish song translation yet. But here is one translation, finally.
This translation is less literal than my previous translations, but I still don't think it can be sung.
PigNoise - Nadie Más No one else
Now that everything is grey in my thoughts
Now that everything is sad if you're not here
Now that it seems I won't be spending time (with you)
Now that everything seems to fail
And I'm not the same since you're not here with me
You take my wrapper (away) and I'm empty inside
Y tengo el corazón tan roto
Y nadie más me lo puede arreglar
Y voy quedandome tan solo
Y nadie más ocupa tú lugar
And I have a broken heart
And no one else can fix me
And I'm going to be left alone
And no one else takes your place
Y me juraron nunca regresar
And the sorrow is not worth it
And the poison always tastes bad
The pleasures were my ideas
And I swore to never return
and in my spiderwebs mosquitos never stick
And my words already have no meaning
Y tengo el corazón tan roto
Y nadie más me lo puede arreglar
Y voy quedandome tan solo
Y nadie más ocupa tú lugar
And I have a broken heart
And no one else can fix me
And I'm going to be left alone
And no one else takes your place
Y quien me iba a decir que me tocaba sufrir,
Que me costara tanto sonreír,
Termino y vuelvo a empezar,
Pero me vuelvo a estrellar
Si no te puedo olvidar
Si no te quiero olvidar
And who was going to say I suffered
It cost me many smile
I stopped and started over
But I crashed again
If I can't forget you
If I don't want to forget you
Y tengo el corazón tan roto
Y nadie más me lo puede arreglar
Y voy quedandome tan solo
Y nadie más ocupa tú lugar
And I have a broken heart
And no one else can fix me
And I'm going to be left alone
And no one else takes your place
And now back to Afrikaans and Finnish.
