Fourth update:
FILMS
1. Beverly Hills 90210 ep. 1-2 ( May 5th)
2. Beverly Hills 90210 ep. 3-4 ( May 5th)
3. Beverly Hills 90210 ep. 5-6 ( May 6th)
4. Beverly Hills 90210 ep. 7-8 ( May 6th)
5. Beverly Hills 90210 ep. 9-10 (May 9th)
6. Beverly Hills 90210 ep. 11-12 (May 10th)
7. Beverly Hills 90210 ep. 13-14 (May 10th)
I am aware of this getting a tad - repetitive - but I depend on my daughter for this... As an oldtimer, I keep being surprised of seeing all the English words used in French though.
- C'est un black
- Je suis clean
- C'est cool.
No wonder the French are getting upset. Though I do not see why it should be any different for them than for the rest of us. Russian amuses me no end with all the English words they use.

What can I say - good for my French - bad for my intellectual growth, not to mention my sanity.

Update (sorry, not keeping track of names and dates)
Films: 10
Writing: 7
Conversation: 3
Books: almost 1 :( (I'm at around 50pgs in one novel, 30 in another, and a bunch of random single-page articles).

The new vocabulary I am learning seems to be very age specific. "Abruti, flipper", but we had a nice job for the translator of the series yesterday. A girl was told that she would meet a guy with a six pack - which in French is called "une tablette de chocolat". Unfortunately when she met him, they started talking about drinking the six pack (because it turned out to be an actual six pack, and not a description of his stomach), which in French became "manger la tablette de chocolat" and it must have been quite demanding for the translator. Happy to see that he/she managed it beautifully though!

Solfrid, are you watching with subtitles? I think watching an entire series (even if it's not the greatest) can be fun. The characters really grow on you--even when they do foolish and shallow things. Before the challenge started, I watched all 16 episodes of Кратий курс счастливой жизни ("Short Course for a Happy Life"), which I think is a little bit like "Sex in the City," though I've never seen that program. It's not the kind of show I would usually watch in English, but I found it gripping nonetheless.
Now, I'm watching (among other shows) Давай поженимся ("Let's Get Married")--which is great because it's a talk show in modern, unscripted language. However, I just found Russian versions of "Star Trek the Next Generation," so looking forward to that.

Yes, I watch it with subtitles. When I took on the Advanced Super Challenge I realized that if I were to
succeed I needed to make it as part of a family activity. Since my daughters are interested in learning
French I have sweet talked them into watching French series. Since they do not speak French yet, they
need subtitles in English.
