Pimsleur: How to Review | ||

Personally, I really wouldn't bother reviewing Pimsleur. While I was doing Pimsleur
Spanish, I had visions of doing the course 3 or 4 times over. But if you think about it, reviewing such a slow course would be incredibly inefficient. By the time you finish Pimsleur, (or even before) you really should be ready to use quicker, more advanced courses. If not, you could spend months just repeatedly reviewing beginners material. The problem I ran into with this with Pimsleur Korean, though, is that some words I completely forgot were even used in Pimsleur (since I didn't have a handy way to review them afterward) then "learned them anew" later from another source. A ways into my studies I decided to take a "review pass" of Pimsleur and was surprised to realize that several words I thought I had learned elsewhere were originally taught in Pimsleur. They were repeated enough to stay with me throughout the course, but I just happened to not come across those words enough afterward to remember them. These weren't uncommon words either, by any stretch. That said, I ended up picking them all up elsewhere anyway, so I didn't really lose anything in the long run by not reviewing Pimsleur material. {shrug} Still I'm definitely not making that mistake again now that I'm going through Pimsleur Japanese. This time I'm taking the time to add the new info I learn from each Pimsleur lesson into Anki as the first cards of my Japanese deck (Kana only for now, since I'm working through the Chinese characters via other means).
