That's interesting. Would you be able to provide an example of how a pronounciation is incorrect and how you would better teach it or provide a source that is much better? Also if I remember correctly, the book is actually aimed at British English speakers, which might be why the pronunciation guide isn't that great. Out of all the opportunities that I've had to speak with native speakers in their language, Russians were the most impressed with my accent and to the point where a few of them told me they would forget I wasn't Russian, for they considered my accent native speaker like. Of course this was at the height of my language studies which I tooke 2 years off and I am only again starting to relearn Russian. Perhaps what may have helped was the fact that I used pimsleur first to learn Russian in the beginning and I tried to replicate the sounds I was hearing. Also, a good Russian friend of mine was helping me in the beginning as well. So I would definitely recommend someone that is startling out Russian to find a a copy of pimsleur or find a different source for learning the pronunciation. Thanks for pointing that information out buddy. I completely forgot about how the new penguin course was aimed at certain English speakers. As you're bilingual, I recommend using Spanish-based explanations of the Russian pronunciation... and same with most other languages, really :D

I've been using a copy at my university's library, but it's available used online for only $20, which isn't too bad I suppose. Sorry for not posting for quite a while. Life has caught me and I need to attend to it.
I am thinking if it is possible that I take part in various challenges for each of my Slavic languages now, for example: Super challenger for Russian, 6WC for Czech and Serbian ? Is it way overkill? 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I like the family in general, since it varies so greatly and a host of other reasons. I have my eye on Russian, so it may be my next plan when I've gotten my French to fluency and my Spanish to at least intermediate.
If you're serious about going after this group, I suggest keeping an eye out for some materials. That would be your biggest impediment by this point. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I want to learn Japanese and Korean and possibly Chinese way further down the line. And none of them
