It is indeed beautiful. The only language in india I have acquaintance with is Tamil, which isnt as pretty as this, and it takes all day just to say "i went to the shops and bought some cigarettes". Tamil is 50% longer than indo european lol. Is this the case with Hindi?

That's because Tamil isn't a Indo-European Language. That is not the case with Hindi, if you translate in Hindi then it would be almost equal in length or may be less.
For, "i went to the shops and bought some cigarettes"
In Hindi,
"मैं दुकान में गई/गया और कुछ सिगरेट खरीद लिया।"
गई for female
गया for male
Pronunciation: Mein dukaan main gayi/gaya aur kuch cigarete khareed leeya.

Yes :) Nice.
so Tamil is one of the four literary dravidian languges ( Malayalam, Tamil Telugu Kannada) I think there are 74 Dravidian languages, of which only 4 are literary.
Hindi belongs to the Indo-Aryan tree?

Yes, Hindi belongs to the Indo Aryan or Indo-European tree.
Because Hindi has lot of similarities with the European languages, closely to French.
If you count from 1 to 10 then you can find a great similarities between Hindi and French.
Even some of the letters are same in Hindi alphabets and Latin alphabets,
example,
English - R, Hindi - र (RA)
Catch is, if you remove the top bar of Hindi letter र, and put it on the left side in vertical position then it will become English letter 'R'

I once bought a cheap T-shirt with an inscription in this Devanagari script. I didn't know what it said. Years later, I went into an Indian newsagent's shop in London wearing it, by then rather faded. The Indian said it was a Hindu prayer in Sanskrit.
