This sort of thing makes me reflect on the threads Can adult learners achieve native
levels? and Help me to have a real "native language" and the reality we face as learners.
It really seems like a lifelong quest though I don't really mind that. I find watching
dubbed/subtitled material to be really interesting as I can see where exactly native
speakers run into problems expressing ideas expressed in English. Sometimes they find an
exact equivalent, sometimes they find a reference that would be recognizable to their
audience, but sometimes they just have to drop it. I figure that if even a native
professional translator has difficulty with something that I shouldn't feel so bad
myself.

Those of us who have a sick sense of humour may think that you have introduced ten meter long plastic cards as the new standard at your university (at least until a simple reality check kicks in and tells us otherwise)
