Actually the Zitronen-blühn-thing has also got a musical representation in the form of one of the most melodious walzes by Johann Strauß II. There are several versions on Youtube, but I have chosen to link to this one because of its its unusually informative uploader comment. Actually I got criticized a lot for NOT learning German and choosing French instead. The situation in Europe is much different from the one in USA.

Thank you for posting this. I agree that reciting poetry is a great way to ... well, if not convince people, at least deflect the expressions of distaste that I get now and then. The worst have been "But German is so ugly!" (as if this were an obvious truth instead of a matter of taste) and "Why on earth would you learn German?" I recite Rilke's "Eingang" and then ask if they really think that sounded unpleasant. That sort of puts them on the spot, and so far no one has been willing to say yes. (If they did, I would assume that my accent, not the language or the poem, was at fault.) 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I'm not learning German, but I have a friend who is learning it. He told me that when someone asks him this question, he says "I like German girls". This is not his true reason, but it seems to work.

i think if u really like a thing ,u shoud not care about others opinions .if u believe thhat can help u ,then u can persist it.on the other hand ,i think learning language is a happy thing ,it can help our career and it also can help us make more friends from different countries,we will feel happy through the learning process.i think this is the most important.
