Oh, I forgot to mention that I'm fighting the desire to start learning Italian. This year I have to finish my thesis, so I have to postpone it. Contending myself with acquiring the material.

Italian is so cool! I know nothing about the language itself, of course, but it just
sounds so pretty and of course the food is excellent. I'm really tempted to start another
language myself, whether it be German at long last or something else, but I know that the
instant I give in to the temptation to buy beautiful new textbooks, there'll be no
stopping me from abandoning my Chinese!
Good luck on your thesis!! Go teammate! :)

Thanx, annette!
Time for the weekly update:
Spanish:
- reading Harry Potter y el Caliz del Fuego - covered 237 pages out of 590;
- watched the movies "Este Cuerpo no es mio" and "Harry Potter y el caliz del fuego".
I feel my level of comprehension of what is being said in the movies really increases. I sometimes don't catch the idea if smb speaks very rapidly, or if there is some background noise, but it gets better and better. And I began thinking in Spanish! So the progress is obvious and I'm very happy about it!
Mandarin:
- again listened to ChinesePod Elementary podcasts a lot;
- worked at the dialogues "Have you ever been to Beijing?", "A ticket to Suzhou", Surfing Online", "What do you do?", "Where's my class?", "Do I look good in this?", "This room is too small";
- studied grammar from the textbook;
- Anki 387 entires.

Weekly update.
Spanish:
- watched "Harry Potter y la Orden del Fenix" (en el espanol, naturalmente);
- listened to 4 chapters of "Harry Potter y la Camara Secreta";
- read "Harry Potter y el Caliz del Fuego" - 513 page out of 590 covered.
It really seems that I'm having too much of Harry Potter.
Mandarin:
- listened to ChinesePod Elementary podcasts;
- thoroughly studied "Mother's birthday", "Football", "Calling in Sick", "Pets", "How Embarrassing", "Nationalities", "Disliking Others", "Your baby looks like you";
- Anki 465 facts.

Weekly update
Spanish:
- listened to 4 more chapters of "Harry Potter y la Camara Secreta";
- finished "Harry Potter y el Caliz del Fuego" - 590 pages.
Mandarin: only revision (writing of the difficulat characters, scriptorium of the dialogues). I think, I'll spend one more week on revision to let the information sink in.
January review:
I can say I'm satisfied with myself (as we Russians say, if you don't praise yourself, nobody is going to praise you). It was rather productive Mandarin-wise, as I worked A LOT with Chinesepod podcasts, though the textbook and Pimsleur were neglected. I think I'll take a break from Chineepod and get down to them this month. As for Spanish, it was also OK as I read 2 books and watched 8 movies, and did some listening. It is going to be less Spanish this month, as I'm ready to turn back to German, because I came across the material that I find rather interesting. I'm planning to work with Top-Thema articles and accompanying sound (http://www.dw-world.de/dw/0,,8031,00.html).

I like that Russian saying! ;) Good luck with the textbook and Pimsleur, it'll be
interesting to see if you feel like you're covering some things too many times after so
much Chinesepod.

Weekly update:
Spanish:
- watched the movies "Un trabajo embarazoso" and "Una pareja de tres"
- listened to 1 more chapter of "Harry Potter y la Camara Secreta";
- read 85 pages of "La Rebellion de Atlas" out of 1674 (yeah, it is going to be a long read) - thanks Sprachjunge, I learned about this book from his journal.

Manadarin:
- worked at the second tale of the reader;
- studied the new characters from the textbook;
- Anki 515 facts;
- did some revision of Chinesepod;
- listened to Pimsleur II, units 1-8.
Annette: Some things are repeated, but not that much, so I find listening to Pimsleur rather useful (esp. for tones). And I can listen to every unit only once or twice, as everything is clear.
