Thank you, magister!
The TKT results are due after the holidays (the whole country begins work only on the 11th). I'll keep you posted.

Does anyone know of a sight where English proverbs and sayings can be found? Some corpus or something of that kind, to include many of them? I need them for research purposes.

Good news! TKT went well, the first two sections - the highest marks, the last one - 3 out of 4 (must have been tired by that time).

Finished reading Saramago's "Ensayo sobre Seguera". Realmente, este libro me puso pensar que estamos tan acostumbrados a los comodidades en nuestra vida que es dudoso que podemos sobrevivir si algo acontece con la organizacion que nos permita tener gas, electricidad, agua, servicios sanitarios en nuestras casas, comestibles en tiedas. Cuando en deciembre a causa del tiempo viviamos algunos dias sin electricidad y agua, sufriamos reales dificultades.

To switch to something more funny, I began reading "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (if the annihilation of our home planet can be called funny). I read it for the second time (the first happened many years ago). Usually, I don't read books twice, but this is one of my favourites.

Listened to Pimsleur Italian 3 upto Lesson 11, also listened to the first 50 Assimil lessons (I did them last summer), something was lost, but in general - not so bad.

Nothing was done about Mandarin, I think, it's at a halt till May, for I'm finishing my thesis, which takes most of my free time. Only flashcards for the time being.

I forgot to mention an audiobook I've recently listened to which really impressed me. It's called "Letter from China" by P.J. Frouning. It's available at the podiobooks site. An American who comes to China to teach English narrates his experiences in a very lively and interesting form. Unfortunately, the ending is very sad.

Finished readibg "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" by Philip K. Dick (in English) and watched the movie "Blade Runner" (in Spanish). This book is a set text for CPE this year, so I decided to have a look at it. The book is really deep and it makes you ponder upon different matters such as religion, value of life, social relationships. The movie and the film coincide only in 10%, no more, it's just a straightforward bloody Hollywood action. Gosh, to mutilate a good book to that extent...

Hardly found the log on page 5. Maybe, I should write more frequently? Really, it's difficult to rememember everything I've done. Let's try:

Mandarin: watched Glossika's lessons on his channel on you-tube. To tell the truth, they are not structured well, but as a kind of revision they were OK. Tried to listen to Steve Kaufmann (hope I spelt the name right), but I can say I could make out only individual phrases and words, and this due to the fact that I knew what he was talking about (I really like him despite his condemnations of language teachers and teaching institutions).

Italian: Pimsleur III - up to 19, "In your Car" - at random. From time to time I listen to the 50-odd Assimil lessons I covered last summer. Began reading "Pinocchio" - I have a book with a parallel Russian translation, first I read a bit in Russian for my son, then in Italian - for myself. It went well!

I also watched lots of videos in English and some in Spanish on youtube. Some of them were polyglot videos, some - concerning teaching English, and some - featuring the physicist Brian Cox.

I love Brian Cox. I could watch him all day - LOL! He did spend time in Germany but I have the impression he spent more time analysing data from CERN than learning German.

All I can say is he really missed a wonderful opportunity to learn German. What a shame!

I'd say he has other interests :) The fact that doesn't speak German doesn't make him a worse public speaker. I like his videos because he explains scientific matters in such a matter-of-fact way, that they become understandable to anyone. And his smile is open and captivating. I like listening to him, too.
