Sadly, all of my books are in storage. I was able to pop into a few bookstores in Seoul the last time I was there a few years ago and noted that there were a lot more books for learning Korean in general and quite a few for Hanja. I am using Useful Chinese Characters for Learners of Korean. I think this is a very good book for people like me, who aren't very advanced in Korean but still wish to learn some Hanja. The first half of the book introduces single Hanja, with a few examples of use in words and example sentences, writing practice, and questions for you to answer [I usually do the questions about a week after learning the section and after reviewing the Hanja with Anki, to see how much I remember]. The 2nd half is considered intermediate. It introduces new Hanja and how to combine those Hanja with other Hanja to form new words. I'm almost all the way through the first half of the book. One downside is it introduces less than 400 Hanja [I'm not sure about the exact amount, and I'm not sure if it actually teaches all of those or if some of them are simply introduced, since all I did was estimate using the Hanja index in the back of the book]. However, the Hanja it does introduce are the most common or useful for Korean learners.

Personally, I've been using a combination of the book you just referenced + Anki + http://hanja.naver.com (mostly for the stroke orders since I can do a screenshot then crop and paste into Anki) to learn 한자. As for which characters I choose to learn first, I mostly base it on characters that popup on Korean TV, though I have recently started working my way through the book in stroke count order to pick up the rest. 1 person has voted this message useful |
