I just noticed that as of today I've been a part of this forum for 1,000 days. How time flies when you're studying languages. I feel like I've made some real progress since joining. I've improved my Italian a ton, I hadn't even looked at Dutch, Catalan or French before, and Romanian seemed next to impossible to study due to the lack of materials. On top of this I have added to my hit list Galician, German and Afrikaans. I've learned a lot about different methods and courses and have gained a ton of motivation from many different posts and members here. Thanks to everyone.

Dutch is really a blast. I am enjoying learning it. My brother speaks it quite well. He lived in the Netherlands for a while, and although that was a long time ago, he has kept up his Dutch pretty well. One day I was reading out loud to have him help me with some pronunciation and we came across the word ongerechtigheid. It is a very "throaty" word. He said, "Spanish rolls off the tongue, Dutch rolls off the throat." Unfortunately he lives pretty far away and we don't get to talk all that often, so I don't get to practice Dutch with him much. We email back and forth in Dutch and, of course, my messages usually come back with a bunch of corrections, but at least I can understand most of what he writes to me.
