Thank you so much for your answer, I think I will give it a try! My Japanese is sort of intermediate level but I forgot a lot due to a long hiatus in learning.
So you didn't use any other methods of studying than that? No grammar books etc.?

I did when I was starting out, which I guess is not the worst thing to do. I presume you could learn a language without doing so, but it can be intimidating if you jump right into a foreign language environment without any preparation which might have negative effects on your mindset. If one is already at an intermediate level, as you are, I personally don't see any need to further study from textbooks etc. Mangas or books are much more fun to read if you ask me ;) And please don't panic if you can't read them yet, that's just the way it is. I certainly had my fair share of "What on earth is this supposed to say?!" moments when I read my first Japanese manga (Love Hina, fyi), but one gets past that annoying stage pretty soon.

Good luck with your Japanese studies! Japanese is a very rewarding language, so you won't regret any minute that you spend learning it!

It's been more than thirty years since the wolf and the winter cold. And now, as then, it is not fear that grips him, only restlessness. A heightened sense of things. The seaborn breeze, coolly, kissing the sweat at his chest and neck. Gulls cawing, complaining, even as they feast on the thousands of floating dead. The steady breathing of the 300 at his back, ready to die for him without a moment's pause. Everyone of them ready, to die.

As you might or might not have guessed, I'm now clocking in at slightly more than 300 hours of listening. Overall, I think I'm doing quite well so far. I spent most of those last 80 or so hours watching some of my favorite movies again, and again, and again. As they say: Repetition is the mother of all skill...
I'm not sure how much I improved compared to when I was at 200 hours though. It doesn't feel like I've come to any sort of milestone, however if my experiences with language learning count for anything, if you're at an intermediate level, even if you do improve substantially, you won't notice. There's really not much to say.. I do feel that I improve, however there's nothing worth writing about. Depending on the material I understand between maybe 30 and 80 percent.. not enough to really enjoy any movie or drama for their story and dialogue when I watch them for the first time. The intermediate stage sure is boring. ;)
I did play a lot of Civilization V though. There's nothing like some Civ to learn vocabulary that you will never encounter in real life!

Woohoo, 400 hours of listening! I don't know why, but multiples of 100 feel important, somewhat.
Again, there's really not much to say. There hasn't been an epiphany.. yet.. but I do get a little better each and every day, which is awesome.
The biggest change so far has been that the news start to make sense. I usually listen to news podcasts for about 30 to 60 minutes while doing my SRS reps in the morning and it seems like my work (?) finally bears fruit. The interesting thing is, I don't even pay attention to what is being said but somehow my brain 'absorbs' at least some of it.. like a sponge, if you will. Well, sometimes I listen to the Street Fighter 2 soundtrack* instead, but I digress.
All in all, I'm at about the same level of comprehension compared to when I was doing AJATT for roughly the same amount of time. It really does work, even though it takes away a healthy chunk of your spare time. ;)

*Guile theme goes with everything, even learning languages.

Funny you should mention that since multiples of 100 are a big deal in Korean culture in general.

For example:
- When a baby turns 100 days old in Korea the first birthday party (돌잔치) is held. Traditionally this is when the baby was actually named as well.
- I've seen several shows make specific mention of a "100th day anniversary" for couples that are dating.
- Some shows (music shows in particular seem to do this) tend to make a big deal out of their ?00 episode shows. In fact, episode 100 of Let's Speak Korean is where I got the "baby's birthday" fact above (which I only remembered as I stashed the term in my SRS). They were explaining the significance of intervals of 100 in Korean on that episode since it was their 100th show.

100 days is 백일, not 돌. They are two different parties. The former is to celebrate the fact that the baby has survived through its most perilous first days of its life. In older times, due to lack of vaccination and other hygienic measures, many babies died before 백일. Surviviing past this made a cornerstone in its life, and as a sign the baby was now socially accepted as one of its members (hence it was given a proper name only after 백일).

돌 is the first birthday, so it is celebrated exactly one year after the baby is born. There we have something called 돌잡이, where we lay down a range of items on the table, and let the baby grab one of them. The item he/she grabs was used to predict the baby's faith (e.g. brush for scholarship, thread for long life, money for wealth).

Anyway, good luck on your Korean journey.

Thanks for your comments guys! Unfortunately, the little that I do know about traditional Korean culture is what I could figure out from watching period dramas, so I've never heard of these parties before. Well, you never stop learning. Thanks for teaching me. :)

PS, is Let's speak Korean any good?

Wow, I guess they completely hosed that fact on LSK then. They did make mention of the "most babies traditionally dying in the first 100 days" part, though, so apparently it was just the name they got matched up wrong, not the overall idea. That SRS card always annoyed me anyway (and hasn't been particularly useful), so I guess this is my excuse to delete it. :)

I used LSK (the two seasons that featured Stephen Revere and Lisa Kelley) as my follow up to Pimsleur and it taught me a lot (I finished the first 130-episode season, but never quite got around to finishing the second season since I had moved on to other tasks, like TV vocab mining). Most of the initial content of my SRS deck and most of my grammar rules have come from that series. Plus the shows are only 10 min each, so they don't take long to watch.
