I've read people recommending learning 1000 words, 2000 words, 3000 words, etc. of a language.
What is a good Korean word list to learn?

The books "Korean Essential Vocabulary 6000" and "Survival Korean Vocabulary" are both based on the list of words released by "The Language Academy of the Korean Language" as the most useful vocabulary to learn. I have both of these myself and am actively working through them to improve my vocabulary. The latter (SKV) is more expensive and the author opted to swap out a few words with others he felt were more important to know (there aren't many of these at all, though). However, if I had to chose only one it would be that one. KEV6000 is still decent and very inexpensive, but some of the definitions are a bit off sometimes (definitely double-check them with another source first such as Naver's and Daum's online dictionaries). Both books include audio (KEV6000 via MP3 download; SKV via included CD).
