That's an understatement if I've ever seen one. The deeper one gets into Korean the more one runs across sentences that make perfect sense the instant you read them but trying to translate those same sentences to English proves surprisingly difficult since the same concept simply wouldn't be worded that way in English. It really makes you appreciate how much works goes into a *good* translation job.

And how much you gain at really learning a language, in terms of access to literature, a new way of thinking, etc. I hope we don't learn Korean just to appreciate translator's task! :)

Well, Warp and I used to complain about subs and translations when we were at the
beginning stages. A couple of years ago, I started translating some songs on Soompi and
then moved over to translating articles for actresses (and helping Tiara Diadem translate
some stuff), and all of that made me appreciate the professional translators. It's not
easy making good translations.

Which items did you work on at Diadem? Any actual shows or just shorter stuff like news articles, Twitter posts, etc.?
I need to start doing some translation work myself as I think it would be good practice. I used to do some song translation work for my own use (which later changed into simply scorched earth reading song lyrics and skipping the part where I create an actual English translation), but that's about the extent of my translation practice.

Just articles. I've done a couple for Diadem and helped out on some others, but most of
the articles I translate are for my own blog.

Got my latest order of books in from Hanbooks, so I'm happy. I've been reading a lot and
watching a lot of dramas while looking up the more common words.
Also I just watched the first episode of the new Lupin III anime. I'm glad there were
subtitles because my Japanese has become terrible, but that's to be expected since I
haven't really touched it in about 8 months.

I ordered several books from Hanbooks last week as well, so hopefully they will ship soon. All the ones I ordered were bilingual books, which I find it far easier to motivate myself to actually read.
