I found out Destinos has subtitles (Spanish and English) on their dvds, but French in Action does not have any. (French or English) It is strange, that for another language there is a feature that helps students are included, while for French nothing. I guess that is the reason the transcripts will help a lot in this case. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

In this thread here, I posted some info on how to download closed captions for the videos available on-line.
I was hoping that there might be some available for FIA as well but couldn't find any. Interesting to hear that the DVDs don't have any either. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Odd thing is French in Action when aired on a learning channel here in Canada, has captioning. This is the closest thing to French subtitles available. It is the dvds that have nothing, only the audio track. Too bad, as it would help in reading and sounding out French words. I would prefer any language learning on dvds have the optional subtitles in the target language. Alas, it is not always the case. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

I started making some subtitles for FiA. I didn't really find anyone else interested in them and stopped shortly (after only doing lessons 2 & 3).

I thought about it myself but it's a lot of work. Maybe it could have been done as a collaborative project. What made me think that there were Closed Captions for FIA available was the following picture from the learner.org site in the VOD FAQ:

It's a transcript of the first part of each video, the part that becomes the "text workup" or "mise on ouvre". The
rest of the video where they expand on the material and show film clips like the guy yelling, "Je suis calme !" are not included. In this way, the pdf is similar to what's in the textbooks, minus the drawings, diagrams, pictures, extra documents, and glossary. All this is a long way of saying this is very helpful if you don't have the French in Action textbook and want to understand better what's in the videos. As an aside, they recommend watching the video before reading the transcript. 1 person has voted this message useful |
