Hi everyone,
This year I definitely want to start learning a slavic language and I've decided for Polish. I love the sound of it and eager to get started pronouncing some of the consonant clusters (mad maybe)! There also seems to be a lot of content which interests me (as far as I can tell) available so I'm keen to start using use of that! My question is: Are there any good websites or free resources out there? I've got a colloquial Polish book which I plan to work my way through (although I'm not a huge fan of the series). I've always found the Teach Yourself books pretty basic and don't want to spend money on any more of them. I'm really looking for something that just throws you in. I'm not a big fan of the 'baby steps' methods as it tends to bore me to the point of quitting. Any responses are greatly appreciated! Thanks Xander 3 persons have voted this message useful | |

There are tons of useful links, as well as a comprehensive overview in Chung's Polish Profile
There's plenty of online dictionaries, and I use three or four regularly for different reasons: University of Pittsburg. Good for checking declensions and conjugations. PONS online. Good for showing a range of definitions, nuances, phrases and uses. bab.la. Texts to illustrate use (some are a bit obscure). WordReference. More example sentences, good allrounder. I listen exclusively to Radio Trójka as there is a huge range of interesing podcasts. After working your way through a couple of general grammar books, you may like to check out the specialised grammar books published by Universitas. Hey,
When I was browsing around looking for Polish resources (trying to convince my half Polish mate to learn a bit of Polish, since he goes to Poland with his dad to visit relatives every year or two) I discovered this website: Polish Language Website From the looks of it, it has pretty much everything that you need to learn Polish. The only two downsides are these: 1. The audio appears to be unavailable (contact Prof. Swan to see whether anything is being done about this), and 2. There are no answers to the questions, as this book was originally designed for uni students. This 2nd point shouldn't be a big issue, especially if you have a Polish friend or tutor who can check the answers for you. I'd definitely recommend using this in conjunction with a book like Colloquial Polish or TY Polish (as you are doing) which has some audio, and also 'simplifies' otherwise difficult concepts to get. However, if you want the comprehensive Polish 'FSI-style' course, then this is it: Beginning Polish by Schenker There is also a Volume 2 with lots of drills. I love EuroLang2012. It was made for football fans though, so some lessons might be less interesting for others.

Hi, I'm just about to have a go at some Polish, and found this site with a free very basic course :
http://www.oneness.vu.lt/ The content is also available as a book with cd. This might be a bit too basic for your needs, but if you look through it the later dialogues might be more interesting to you.
