Any critique is welcome, especially if it is informed, as yours is. I would rather improve than not find out my weak points.

I searched online for a Korean word frequency list and only found this one, which has 200 words. It is lacking in a lot of ways, but I knew every one of the "words" on the list, which I suppose is not that meaningful at this stage of my study. I was really hoping to find a list with 2,000+ words, but oh well.
This morning I hit 3,000 words total on my word lists. Some words are repeated and some are no longer passive or active vocabulary, but the exercise as a whole has been quite helpful. I finished going through all of the pure Korean roots in the Handbook of Korean Vocabulary, and it has ended much of the confusion between similar-looking words.
I'm not quite ready to tackle the entire Sino-Korean section of the book, so I'm temporarily scaling back my word-listing to just vocabulary from my reading. Yesterday I read a children's book, Cactus Hotel, (learning the words for "spotted owl" and "termite") and I also read about half of the first volume of The Bride of the Water God manhwa.
Edit: Jeez, do I even speak English? I had to correct my own grammar four times...

Hahaha.. that's like me typing Korean... :)
Hey! I remember that book. Cactus Hotel! I read it long time ago when I was like 7 or something.. About a Saguaro cactus right? I think it falls down at the end but can't remember for what reason... Yes, I used to be a very avid reader before I started my A Levels..

A strong wind blew it down, and then all its branches cracked. It was a really sad story for a children's book!

Most of the time I don't feel much day to day improvement in Korean, but about once a month I have a day where I feel like like the past few weeks' studying is manifested at once.
While reading through some Korean blogs I came across this poem, and was surprised to find I understood the entire thing except for one word, 찡그리다, whose meaning I closely guessed. This is also the first time I effortlessly web-surfed in Korean, understanding my options and not relying on my dictionary. For the most part I understand what is going on in all the blog posts as well, but certainly don't know all of the words.

Yeah it indeed was a touching story book. *sniff* :'(
Kudos on your achievement. I read the poem, and I think it was a nice piece of Korean poetry you found there. Surprising, since many Korean poems sound fake to me.. :)

This isn't a frequency list - at least I don't think it is, but it might be helpful regardless. It supposedly has 3200 words.

I find most newspaper articles pretty boring, so I made a little game to help me get through the articles in Korean. I read the articles a sentence at a time and look up the words I don't know. Then I read the sentences over and over, trying to remember the corresponding hanja. Once I can remember them all, I type the sentence in mixed script myself. Since I find hanja more interesting than the business news, it helped me focus and learn the vocabulary in the above article. Anyway, with topics like these, they tend to repeat the same "buzz words" over and over, so they really stick in your mind.
