I perfectly understand what you mean by "having the hangul's sound play aloud in my head without trying to comprehend hte sentences". I got that while I was reading German books as well. Another thing about Harry Potter and other such books is that it's just ridiculously long for intermediate learners. You feel compelled to "finish off" the book, rather than focusing on the vocabulary or grammar of the language. This is exactly the reason why I'm re-reading Harry Potter. I already had this experience while I was learning English, so I knew that re-reading the material would give me greater understanding of the language. Perhaps, you could re-read Korean Harry Potter some time later, after you are done with the children's books.

Anyway, I'm rather impressed with your progress (as usual!). By the way, are you visiting that Korean chef you wrote about a few months earlier??

I think I've met him four times, but haven't seen him in the past two weeks. I'll have to go back soon for some good food and conversation.

EDIT: Didn't really finish my response...

Well, the first time I read Harry Potter the sound playing in my head was intentional. I read it solely to speed up my reading of hangul. (it worked!) I was reading it again last week and actually trying to understand as much as I could, but fell back into that sound-only reading. I'll get back to it eventually, but for now it's all chickens and little girls.

TAC 2009 Day 7

Read 궁 vol. 1, and used a dictionary for some words. However, I understood much more without the dictionary than the last time I tried to read it.

I read 꽃들에게 희망을.. If I remember correctly, I think it has too mature themes to be considered a children's book. Although the language is simple, the subject matter is very deep.

Good luck with 궁. Have you watched the TV drama version?

Yes, I was actually surprised by the book for exactly that reason, but the vocabulary was good for my level. I watched the first few episodes of the 궁 several months ago, and I will probably watch the whole series once I finish all 18 volumes of the comics.

Recently I found a lot of the popular Korean comics online in the original Korean. If I can get comfortable reading them on my screen I might go through some of those as well. It's much easier for me to lay down with a book than sit at the computer and read.

Wow, this is the 200th post on my log. I'm looking forward to 200 more. Anyway, number 200 isn't so substantial. I read the second volume of 궁 today.
