Here are a few games for quizzing Hanja, but only the first one works on my computer. It won't teach you the characters, but will point out any holes in your knowledge and improve your recognition speed.

TAC 2009 Day 97

Except for my reviews, I didn't work on new vocabulary today. Instead I watched a bunch of Starcraft matches with Korean commentary on YouTube, understanding a great deal.

TAC 2009 Day 98

I wrote a diary entry today on Cyworld, and as usual when writing, I didn't reference a dictionary. I'm usually pretty shy about writing Korean because my mistakes are all out there in the open and it makes me feel pretty stupid. But in this one, even if there are some silly mistakes, I can see the improvement.

Hey GoldFibre. I just read your post on learning 한자. It definitely is encouraging to hear, considering I'm in the middle (exactly at 750 or 1500!) of my RTH stage. Your card method definitely seems ideal for moving from all these Hanzi with English words attached to them to the real world of Korean. I do have a couple of questions, and you're really the best person I know of to ask.

After you finished RTK, how have you transitioned into learning new characters. I mean, I sort of know how your cards work and whatnot, but do you still use the RTK method to remember the elements? Do you still have stories? Do you find characters with primitives you've never learned? How do you deal with this? Do you focus on writing the characters still? I am asking both because I'm curious about how I should try to transition to learning characters on my own when I'm done with this book and wondering if 1500 characters is enough of a base to work with. Anyway, thanks a bunch.

It's good to hear you are moving through RTH quickly!

These days I don't go out of my way to learn new characters. I just take them as they come. Anyway I think that the RTK method is for keeping them distinct as you learn bunches of new characters at a time. After finishing the book you usually learn them one at a time, which may not require such measures.

There are some funny characters I've come across with shapes I've didn't see in RTK, but I don't know what those parts themselves mean. When my Korean is much further down the road I may dive into character study again, but for now it's not a priority.

I do write the Hanja of every new Sino-Korean word I come across, but this is solely to force me to spend more time thinking about that word and the Hanja it uses. I figure the more time I concentrate on the new word, the more likely I will be to remember it later on.

I think 1,500 characters is more than enough for a base starting Korean. After RTH I would suggest focusing on the general use Korean vocabulary, which is almost entirely of pure Korean origin. I learned this in January by reading books for children at age 5 or so, and without an SRS since the words are so common.

TAC 2009 Day 98

I didn't do any new vocabulary again today. I did my reviews and tried to relearn the ones I missed. I'll probably extend this break to three days tomorrow as there will be another StarCraft party. I guess the first one was a hit!

TAC 2009 Day 99

The teams were a bit more even this time and we went 2-2. I could have played better though. Talked trash about StarCraft in Korean.

Tomorrow is my first completely free day in a long time, so I should be able to get in a lot of active studying. Maybe I could even finish Keroro volume 4.

TAC 2009 Day 100

In the first half of day 100 I went through more of Keroro volume 4. I should come close to finishing today.

Best card:
