Oh, I just got the newsletter, and this has made my morning. More than my coffee, even.
After struggling with grammar-heavy, old, traditional Ukrainian courses, I cannot express how fortunate we are to
have this new course appear. Teach Yourself and Colloquial are helpful--but after completing them, while studying
in Lviv last summer, I had no clue how to continue with the language. This offering has rekindled my desire to
achieve competency, and finally read that pile of Ukrainian literature I brought home.
And then Croatian, too! The old Assimil Serbo-Croate course is great, but some of the lessons are based on literary
texts that are, for a beginner, more frustrating than helpful. I've gone through that Assimil course, Linguaphone
Serbo-Croat, and several others (Teach Yourself, Colloquial, Hippocrene). I will use this new Assimil offering to
solidify my intermediate level, in keeping with my policy of using books that teach Bosnian, Croatian, or Serbian,
indiscriminately.

I know, right, whenever I receive an Assimil newsletter I get so excited, but in terms of
new language courses, there's rarely anything new at all.
I think it's great they've released a Croatian course, they don't offer any other South-
Slavic language course at the moment, even the Serbo-Croatian one seems to be unavailable
on the website. (It's listed there, but the link doesn't work)
I hope they will still release courses for rare / less popular languages this year. Maybe
even the long-awaited Icelandic course, who knows.

Fortunately, this is not true. There's a Bulgarian course available in both German and
French. I'm not sure if it exists in an English version, though. :)

Oh, good that you mentioned it, I had totally forgotten about the Bulgarian course!

Yes, and it seems very promising too. I've tried other "Perfectionnement" courses from
Assimil (Spanish, German, French) and they're all very well made/arranged. I'm
definitely going to check it out too as soon as I feel more comfortable using French.

Assimil has a book by the same title ("Perfectionnement Italien") published back in 1987; whether or not this is a new edition isn't clear.

Perfectionnement Arabe
If they fix the first course, I would be ecstatic over this.
