I was just informed, that "Portugués de Brasil" has been shipped. I pre- ordered it
before the release of April 2013 and I am about to receive it next week. Usually five
business days for shipping. About ten months off from the initial release date. There
were delays, as even the current batch of programs will have.

I just want forum members to realize, that different stores will vary when it comes to
stock and availability. Amazon.ca had the listing before April of 2013 and the Assimil
website did not have it listed even after the release date for how many months. I am just
happy Amazon.ca is able to obtain the course. Canada seems to have an easier time in
ordering Assimil programs with a different language base, than Amazon.com.

Reading your post, it came to my mind that it would be a good idea to have native speakers reviewing or in any way criticizing Assimil editions teaching their first languages. As a Brazilian, I would like to see, out of curiosity at least, what would they put as content on a Brazilian Portuguese manual, not to mention their grammar approach.

Or maybe that's not so much of an original idea and there is a topic somewhere on this subject already????

I have not really looked over the book and it has been shelved for a while. I have been
talking with Brazilians in the Ciência sem Fronteiras program at the university. To my
surprise I quickly browsed and understood the first 32 lessons, without looking anything
up.

I don't know how I could describe the content of the book very well to you, without you
seeing it. I did exaggerate the accent of the first lesson and the Brazilians found it
amusing. I can show it to them, but they are not into studying languages, so it is not
like they will be able to critique it for the language learner.

I find interacting with real people more fun.

I wrote and asked if the new German course had been published yet. This was the reply:

Thank you very much for your interest in our publications.

German in the With Ease series should be published by the end of 2014.
We will be glad to inform you as soon as it is released.

I'm checking the assimil facebook wall, they're comunicating with it
now.
From what I've read, mostly french:

For French speakers:

Spanish : advanced method, 2014.
Russian : advanced method, end 2013, early 2014.
Cantonese, end 2013.
Japanese : new method or very updated method, no idea. Early 2013.
Esperanto, not available anymore for sale, will available only online in the future,
through their apps probably.
Danish : new method, end 2013, early 2014.
Occitan : new method, normally may 2013.
Chinese : no advanced method for the moment.
Korean : no new method for the moment.
Polish : no advanced method for the moment.
Serbian : they're looking for a good writer to do the method.
Hungarian : new method end 2012.
Czech : early 2013.
Dutch : no advanced method for the moment.
Indonesian : updated edition, 2012.

I think I've read something about Sanskrit and Khmer as well for 2013.

Oh and I just bought the new advanced Italian, it's huge, better than the
advanced English, more text, less notes and explanation below, lot of good grammar.
More than 4h of audio, the Advanced English, only has 3h30.
Advanced German huge too, had a look at it in the library.
Advanced Arabic looks very good too.

Ukrainian assimil : only 80 lessons, but seems to do the job. Cultural explanations at
the end of each lessons. The grammar and the texts seems good, not too short, not too
long. Looks like a very serious method.

------------------------------------------------------------
English speakers :

Like russian in 2012 you'll have :
Hebrew : 2013.
Yiddish : 2013.
Spanish : 2013.
German : 2013.
Italian : 2014.
French : 2014.
Ancient Egyptian : 2014.
Brazilian Portuguese : 2014.

And they say they want to create apps for android, apple, say they're very late.

Interesting to look back at this. For the English side of the equation,
Russian,Yiddish, Spanish, and German have come out over the last couple of years (most
rather late).

Anyone know any updates on Hebrew, Ancient Egyptian, Brazilian Portuguese, Italian, or
French from the English base? I am actually surprise French was on this list at all.
Isn't New French With Ease still regarded as being pretty up-to-date? It would seem
very much not in need of a refresher from what I know of it. Especially compared to
fixing up old courses or writing new ones.

New Arabic in the English base is out!

http://fr.assimil.com/methodes/arabic#super-pack-livre-cd-au dio-cd-mp3

It is the English version of the newest French-based Arabic course. No idea if this
one will be any good, but surely a step up from the previous generation of the
English-based course which was widely seen as the worst Assimil course this side of
the old Using Spanish course.

Anyone with the French version care to chyme in? And have any of you with the French-
based version managed to figure out the proper Audacity settings to make the Arabic in
this sound "normal"? Fiddling with the settings for a romance language seems way
easier to do by ear than doing so with the Arabic. I am going to order the course with
audio once it is available on Amazon, but I really do hate paying for the super slowed
down stuff.
