I didn't think so at all. The lessons were appropriately sized, for the most part were interesting, and even
contained several dialogs with regional accents. |

For this new edition I don't think that caricatural and imitated accents can be considered as regional... The worst concerns the 80th lesson " entre lusitana e brasileira". In this lesson you'll see "vos ides" that is uncommun, the voice of the "portuguese" (????) woman doesn't sound at all from Portugal and it seems to be more a faked accent,
I think one of the two Brazilian female speakers tried to imitate portuguese accent.
I don't mention the poor quality of the dialogs, they are moronic...

Allthough the new version of Brazilian portuguese is a "failure", the new editions
for other languages are acceptable except the English and Spanish ones. L'Allemand, le Catalan are pretty good, l'Italien is too light. The new advanced courses are better than the olders.

In first editions of TY Portuguese, Portuguese speakers were used to fake the Brazilian dialog.
In ''American Headway '' (by Oxford University Press), British voices fake the American accent. It's pretty common...

Common or not, it's not ideal to learn a new language from someone faking an accent!

It's much preferable to use the older Assimil brazilian course ( le Brésilien Sans Peine ), but unfortunatly it doesn't exist in English.

Anything that gives examples of regional accents is beneficial in my opinion. Most courses contain speakers
"faking" the neutral accepted standard anyway... But I understand why people could issue with it. Why are
the dialogs "moronic?"

The Brazilian Portuguese for Spanish speakers is available on pre- order, but not from
the official site in France. I suggest members to look it up from other merchants or
contact Assimil by emailing them.
Even though I find the program helpful, I will also email them concerning the accents on
the program. I prefer native speakers of the language for a genuine model of imitation.
I will be referring to the post by Pushkin at the top of the page.

In a troll move towards Anglophones, Spanish and Portuguese are now available for Dutch
speakers from Assimil. It leaves one wondering why Dutch gets a Portuguese course, but
English doesn't...
(although you won't hear me complaining!)
