Good news! Is this their first advanced Italian course? |

Nope. As daristani has pointed out, a book with the exact same title was published in
1987.

I assume that it is a new edition. According to Assimil's website this one has 70
lessons whereas the older version, which I have in front of me, has 94. The author and
title of booth books are the same though, so whether this the new Perfectionnement
italian consists of entirely new material remains a question as yet unanswered. I
certainly hope that the recordings have been done with different and better actors, as
one of the chief problems I have with the course I own is the quality of the
performances. Anyone who has worked with it will know that there is one person in
particular who seems to be either a)a robot, or b)to have received the script about 10
seconds before the mikes were switched on.

Since we're talking about new Assimil courses, let me just add that based on
correspondence I've had with the company, the new Bahasa Indonesia course will come out
in November of this year.

Seldnar, perhaps you could inform us if there any other courses in the schedule, that is, to be published?

The new Arabic and Portuguese courses look tempting (though the later is just more of a
revision). Yay for more Assimil! I love these guys!!! Hmmm...I wonder how hard Ukrainian
is after Russian...I kid, I kid but still...

Is the new Portuguese course you're referring to the fairly recent Le portugais du Brésil
or is there another course for the Portuguese of Portugal on the horizon?
I'm glad that Perfectionnement arabe is out, as I think a lot of us have been hoping for
more books in the advanced series.

I only know about the Indonesian course. I found some postings by the author on travel
forum and she said she expected it out this year, so I wrote Assimil and asked
specifically about the course. (I've learned that when a publisher brings out a book
(course, etc) is not always when the author thinks her/his work is coming out--authors
usually think its sooner than the publisher)

I've just ordered the new Assimil Russian course for English speakers. I've been putting
off starting on Russian for a while now because I was waiting for this course to be
released. Now I have no excuses :)
