I only found one, I could have sworn I had at least a couple more. It's called Basic Korean: A Grammar and Workbork. It goes from learning Hangul to making decently complex sentences. I have only skimmed it, though. Take a look at the FSI Korean materials, I am downloading them currently. If your interested, I can tell you how to get some more Korean .pdfs.

Also I have some random .pdfs for quite a few languages, if anyones interested PM me.

I think I have the actual FSI book in physical format. It's called "Korean: Hear it, Speak it, Write it, Read it" right?

Or am I getting this confused with something else?

Note 2 to Pimsleur spies: You are gaining a lot more new business from this forum than what you may potentially be losing through the existance of amateur transcripts, i.e. study notes. Be careful or your loyal customers will turn against you.

I'm not sure, I'm getting the whole FSI set via torrent so it's not completely downloaded yet.

Yes, the "Mastering {Language Name}" series books are the Barron's reprints of the FSI materials (this is mentioned on Prof. Arguelles's review of FSI/Barron's on Youtube). Of course, this is also the same review where partway through a very complimentary review (mostly due to the amount of content the FSI courses have), I had to laugh when he popped out with the phrase: "but...deathly boring" I guess FSI drills aren't really his style of learning.

My local library used to have that FSI book and 8 cassette tapes (maybe it was 16, it was a lot!) worth of lessons. I checked it out from the library a few times but just couldn't make it through more than lesson 3 or 4 because it was so... incredibly... BORING.

I even bought that book from Amazon.com, thinking that I would force myself to study and learn the language through brute force. No such luck.

I'm sure the book is phenomenally comprehensive, but it has the following flaws:

1. Boring
2. Super formal speech. Annyeong hashimnikka? (it might get less formal later on, but I couldn't make it that far)
3. The writing is tiny and hard to read
4. The accompanying audio was probably recorded in the 70s and is poor quality, which adds to the difficulty of understanding Korean.

They use a weird romanization system, BUT it is 100% consistent where each hangul letter is represented by its own unique letter, so there's none of that "-eo" type stuff for this vowel: -|. While it is uncommon because I don't think anyone else uses that style of romanization, the consistency is nice. Korean, unlike Japanese, doesn't lend itself to easy and consistent romanization.

Some of the exercises are written only in that romanization, which is annoying. There are a ton of exercises after each lesson, and I'm sure it's comprehensive, but you gotta be able to stay awake in order to learn.

I downloaded the full set quite a while back, but those two reasons are why I will likely not use it much, if at all.

The romanizations only exist for volume 1 (units 1-18), though. In volume 2 (units 19-47), they disappear completely and only 한글 remains on the Korean side.
