I too would really like to go to Belarus or far away into Russia. But as I'll probably only have 4 weeks intensive course during summer, I just think Ukraine is the best solution. No visa offers much more flexibility (and hopefully less tickets/bribes for policemen).

If you haven't already chosen a course I can recommend the Summer course at the University of Odessa.

Stelingo, what university was it, and what sort of environment was around campus (e.g. only foreigners?)?

It was at the Centre of Russian as a Second language at Odessa National Polytechnic University. There were about 30 of us studying Russian at the time and we were based in one of the main university buildings. As it was August there were few native students there but I suspect it would be possible to get to know some during the academic year if you made the effort.

You made a good choice. I was in Odessa 6 years where I studed Russian, German and French. I met Mrs AmBergh in the London Language Show last year and we had a very interesting conversation.
