Reading a poem called "Tres Mujeres" by Sylvia Plath

It is quite long (38 pages) and I've been looking up words as I go along so it will take a while to get through. I have decided that I should read some decent literature that is written in Spanish already. I have a lot of words from this poem to remember (and even quite a few from the 3-page intro before it) and made a list for myself... I can't seem to make accents on my laptop without going to the character map, which is a pain in the ass. Words to remember (well, most of them) from only the first 15 pages:

-plantearse - to think about/arise
3) aspirar - to inhale

Maybe I should make flash cards or something.
I do plan on reading over the poem more than once though just to see how much easier it will be for me the 2nd and maybe 3rd time around.

Looking up all these words would have been way more time consuming if I didn't have an electronic dictionary. I'm so glad I got this thing.

Chapter 16 - Schaum's Outline of Spanish Vocabulary

"Comprando Los Comestibles"

-36 minutes

1)tener buena pinta- to look good

Chapter 17 - Schaum's Outline of Spanish Vocabulary

"En Casa, El Hogar"

-2 hours

There are a lot of words that I've seen but wouldn't be able to think of and say off the top of my head so I spent the time going through the exercises as well as writing down all the words that I should study and possibly make flash cards for.
I should know a lot of these, like escoba should come to me quickly, and other words like aspirar, el desague(with an accent on the u) and el tapon.

Well anyway I've probably already studied 4 hours (including going through that poem)since Oct. 4, but I want to go by the Mon-Sun week, so I'll count it as 3 hours so far this week.

Depending on your OS and software setup you may be able to find an applet that can switch keyboard character mappings for you to get those accents. I know I would be pulling hair out if I had to copy paste from the character map all the time. With the keyboard layout switcher I use, I can click on it once to switch to Spanish and then the accents are keystroke combinations like typing 'o (apostrophe and then o) get's you ó etc. For the ñ itś a single key (same key as the US keyboard semicolon (;)

I'm using Ubuntu linux - but I'm pretty sure Windows XP has keyboard mapping capabilities (and I've set it up for someone on Mac OS X before). It will make your typing a LOT easier.
