Here's a link (cut and paste) that gives some compelling reasons why Latvian is a little
easier than Lithuanian: http://ikindalikelanguages.com/blog/latvian-is-easier-than-l ithuanian/ I prefer the sound of Latvian, but they're both very melodic. I'm leaning towards Latvian although there are fewer Latvian speakers, more foreign language penetration (Russian) and less resources. However, there are quite sizeable Latvian immigrant communities in my area which also makes it more attractive. Yes, indeed. Latvian is easier than Lithuanian to learn for a foreigner. Baltic vocabulary is a mess for me since many of the words don't ring a bell for me based on what I've seen in other languages (apart from the Germanic or Slavonic loanwords) but the levelling (e.g. all masculine nouns end in -s/-š, almost all feminine nouns end with -a, -e and only a few "mimic" masculine nouns by ending in -is) in Latvian goes a long way in accelerating acquisition. Although there is one correction that I should make in the blog's post: the case for any Latvian plural nominal after a preposition (not a "proposition" as used in the blog) is dative (not genitive). Interesting concept. In song the languages sound similar for me (I can only pick out snippets in each of the languages) and the melody is pleasant enough. However after I watched the video in each of the three languages (EE, LV, LI), I confess that I'm slightly partial to the Estonian version ;-)
