Good thing I like crowds eh?

Well, a few months ago in a fit of frustration and disappointment I decided to put my Russian on the back burner for a while. Basically, four years of on again/off again study had achieved pretty much nought and I thought it best to focus my language learning on areas where I knew I could make progress. So I started learning Portuguese, and I love it! It goes so well with my Spanish, it's fun, it sounds cool...I'm really glad I chose it to learn. I'm about three months in, and although progress has been interrupted as of late due to personal reasons, I'm still happy with how it's all going.

Last week I found out that a person I know speaks Russian and has a website with a Russian course that he developed. He gave me free access to the course and bam! just like that, now I'm back into Russian!

I knew it would never die completely, I have such a fascination with the country and the language, I just didn't think I'd be picking it up again so soon! But how could I pass up an opportunity eh?

So...this will be my journal which will help me keep track of my work on Spanish, Portuguese and Russian.

For anyone interested in my work on Portuguese up to this point you should check out my previous journal And suddenly I'm learning Portuguese!

At this point in my life I am trying so hard to improve the way I go about every day in order to achieve my goals. I am naturally a very lazy and easily distracted person, but I am determined to change that. I am going to try and aim for half an hour every day in each language (an hour and a half of language study all up), if I feel the urge to do more I can.

So welcome to my new language log, and thank you for reading!

Listen2Russian - Chapter 2: Introduction to Grammar Parts 1 - 5

Pimsleur - Level 2 Unit 1

It'll be mostly revision for a while, and trying to get a better understanding of basic grammar.

I just checked out Listen2Russian. It looks like a good site to learn the basics.

Thanks for checking in on my journal goosefrabbas. I do think Listen2Russian will be helpful. I need a much better grounding in the basics, which I can't really get from Pimsleur (which is probably where my problems with Russian have arisen from in the first place). I'll give much more feedback on the course as I work through it and hopefully it will prove useful enough to recommend to others!

Not much time for languages today unfortunately. I have a job trial tomorrow morning (fingers crossed!) but hopefully I'll have time to do some solid study tomorrow afternoon. Also got to makes some moves on my psych essay...so much to do!

Pimsleur Level 3 Unit 5

Wow, I found this unit surprisingly difficult! It felt like just after half way through there were a lot of new things thrown at me, and because some of those new things weren't similar to the equivalent in Spanish it made it even harder! I'll have to repeat this unit, either later tonight or tomorrow.

Pimsleur Level 3 Unit 5 Repeated. Much better second time around, though the second half still took some serious brainpower!

I'm finding the Pimsleur Russian pretty easy going right now. Though I guess it's all revision at the moment.I got up to the beginning of Level 3 about a year or so ago...however as soon as I decided that I wouldn't be accepting the teaching job in Samara I pretty much stopped dead on the Russian study. Planning on making this go slightly more successful!
