Well check out my languages to the left. I came across some incredibly smart Russian programmers and suddenly remembered that there are 350 million Russian speakers very close to my country (Sweden). Russia can only get better.. it's got huge potential. And Germany --- who can keep it down? I've heard German all my life but never studied it. Suddenly it felt very attractive and incidentally: These are the TWO BIGGEST MOTHER TONGUES IN EUROPE. 1) Russian 2) German If you only count EU, then it's German, of course but on the European continent, it is Russian. Both realistically have a better claim to the role of lingua franca in Europe than English which just GOT LUCKY following the events after WW2 and US dominance in Western Europe. But all things must come to an end. I'd say you can't go wrong with either of these, but for a native English speaker, German is A LOT easier whereas Russian is uphill all the way.... But Russian is just that tiny bit more 'exotic' and 'exciting'... Germany is a MUCH bigger economy than Russia right now, although it's possible that Russia can turn things around and become an economic force to be reckoned with outside of natural resources. 1 person has voted this message useful |
