I can read books in English and French without any problems. German would be a bit harder (I would have to look up more words in the dictionary) but it would still be possible.
Spanish however is another story... I would only be able to ready the easiest texts, but then again, I know I urgently have to brush up on my knowledge of that language as I haven't spoken it for so long. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

I can read some simple sentences that have words in my vocabulary if there is more words
in my vocabulary than ones that aren't. Too bad my listening skills are really garbage. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

When there's a paragraph in Japanese that has no unknown words or kanji, I can read it easily at the same speed as English. I'm excited about that because it means that once I've been studying longer and have more experience, I should be able to read in it faster than in English.

I can't, but I'm going to spend the rest of my life getting to a point where I can, if
that's how long it takes. I've pretty much given up reading novels in English, so I'll have to become proficient in reading in other languages if I wish to enjoy novels. I should add also that, whilst I like reading without the dictionary, I really don't mind reading with one either. But I couldn't do this with a normal paper dictionary. It's electronic or nothing. I can't recommend the Ultralingua dictionaries on iPod enough. The amount of idioms I discovered when I didn't know I was looking for them is staggering. 1 person has voted this message useful | |

When I read Anne of Green Gables, I had to turn on the computer to look up words, which much more inconvenient than sat still and watch what her doing. That make me keep far from the dictionaries and more familiar with the work.
It's also with movie, I just wish to know how the story run that I can't press pause to look up words 1 person has voted this message useful |
