Sort of related, I suppose...
I'm a pretty big Star Trek fan, and consistently watched The Next Generation series. I saw an interview with the woman who played Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis), and she talked about her accent on the show. Her real British accent kind of grates on me personally, but I always liked the accent she used as the character Deanna. Anyway, she made a comment in the interview that she'd received a lot of fan mail trying to place what type of accent she had. She had come up with that accent by imagining what a European population would sound like if they spoke English in the 24th century. I found that interesting. I know even within my lifetime, kids are speaking English differently than when I was a kid (as we spoke differently than our parents), and I attribute that to the country, or at least the part of the country where I was raised, becoming more multicultural. Anyway, the most attractive accent to me, in any language, is one that you know they're not native, but you can't quite place where they're from. R. == 2 persons have voted this message useful | |

In English, I love (slightly attenuated) Scottish accent, it's just adorable.
In Serbo-Croatian, by far the most attractive accent comes from Dalmatia (actually from Split. Don't know about girls, but I'm all smiley face when a guy speaks with that accent. Same for Scottish). Spanish is a bit hard, I'm not sure, maybe Argentinian accent. Russian is easy: whatever Marat Safin speaks got to be the sexiest accent ever heard :). So, yes, accent does matter (unless you are Marat Safin, of course). There are no accent I hate or can't stand, so for me it can only make someone more interesting/attractive. I wonder what's the psychology behind it, is it just the 'exotic factor' or there is more to it. 1 person has voted this message useful |
