The question is whether watching a video with a transcript until you have trained yourself to understand it without the transcript is the same thing as training your mind to work out new audio without a transcript.

This article appears to suggest that watching with the transcript is
more beneficial than listening without - but its a matter of taste

I think the best way is listening several times without any transcript or subtitles until you can't understand anymore. Then check the transcript or the subtitles for feedback.
The Dictation technique variation is even better. Listen several times, using the pause if necessary, and write down everything you hear. If you don't understand something, write down some phonetic transcription even if it doesn't make any sense. Then check mistakes comparing with the real transcription or title.
You can use this with DVD sitcoms, podcasts, audiobooks, songs and so on.

I am just getting into teaching and learning languages and wanted to know if FIA is also available in other
languages? It seems a lot of people on this forum really enjoy using it.

No, as far as I know there is no similar program in other languages.
Creating this kind of programs require a lot of funds.

There was a Russian television series that I watched around thirty years ago. Does anyone know anything about it?

I see. Thanks for the quick response. What is so great about FIA? Is it a certain method they use or does it depend
on the person? I know I could probably go on their site and just read, but I prefer hearing if from someone else's
perspective with out all the "marketing techniques"
