There are very few people who honestly know what ethical principles they adhere to. Thus, the majority is confused about questions of justice on a personal level; and it's hopeless on questions regarding political philosophy. Many sprinkle some utilitarianism in one area and individual rights principles in another area, making it up as they go. And as for logic, well you can do pretty much anything with symbolic logic when it comes to ethics(just obey a few axioms). Robert Nozick is man to go to for American Libertarianism; this guy became professor at Harvard for his skill in logic.
Because mankind doesn't have the discipline to study ethics, does it really make sense to say that a particular group of people holds position X? There are very few people who hold consistent ethical principles, knowing them in great detail. 2 persons have voted this message useful |
