@: Tournesol: thx a lot for corrections!! I never thought I made so many mistakes!! Shame on me!!
That's why I really cant take English as a B language !! :)) eg : interpreters when stuck in their booth have to interpret during (for) 20-25 min continuously !! for : I should have known that! Anyway, thx for the corrections, I know it takes time and it's not that rewarding for a native speaker! Btw thx for filling the gap with the Kids News material... They were pretty hard to understand!! Though I'm glad I did understand "first time ever" from Lucie.. sthg Jinx didnt catch.. As for the competition I have to sit in order to enter the school, the answer is no! I cant sit for the competition right now, as I 'm required to spend at least (!) one year abroad in one of my C languages and sthg like 6 months in each of the others two... That's 2y and then a 2y program at school, so that leaves me with a 4y preparatory training before even thinking of being an interpreter... and even if I dont succeed in entering the school, at least I'll be perfectly fluent in 4 languages... Working on my English...
Found a book "Foreign Tongue" by Vanina Marsot (2009):.... Great book!! It's just I'm learning one word every sentence!!! Already read 234 pages out of 358 in 3 days... not that bad!!! Actually I dont use any wordbook since it slows down the reading pace!! But I aim to reread it once I finished it in order to work on the vocabulary.... Trying to read " what the psychic told the pilgrim" by jane christmas. The vocabulary is pretty hard ! I decided to underline a word or a sentence everytime i cant catch up the meaning and it came up with many pages full of underlined ... sentences !! I thought I knew a little bit of English, it seems to me I'm "a new kid in the block" (is that correct?)
God! It looks like I never learnt English !! It's appaling... But I will go through it!! No way I give up !! I recently downloaded a whole bunch of episodes aired on cbc.ca dealing with the political life of MP Nelly Gordon in Ottawa... God!! I love this show!!! I've been living in Ireland (Dublin) for 8 months now... I'll keep you tuned with my progress in English, but so far , I really feel like I'm staggering... except when it comes to understand "irish people" !! I remeber how much I was disappointed at the begining !! I could hardly understand 50% of what they said when I was dealing with 98% with canadian and american people... So, I decided to keep up with the videos on you tube but the main point is : how can you master a language at a native level if you are not "really" immersed in the language on a daily- basis? I "re-read" the Kato Lomb' book about languages and I definitely agree : you dont need to be in a country to learn a language...
what do you think? the good thing about being in a youth hostel is : I can practice as many languages I want ! English, unfortunately comes last !! :)) 1 person has voted this message useful |
