This sounds so cool! I just signed up (and followed both of you, doviende and Sprachprofi). I am absurdly excited about this – it sounds like exactly what I need to motivate myself to get reading.

@Sprachprofi: thanks for all the great tips! I am looking at some of the easy-reading sites and also ordering the
Anna's Summer book. I went ahead and signed up even though I am not sure I'm at the 800 character level. I have probably learned that many characters but I keep forgetting them! But that's why I think this challenge will be good for me. It's the words and characters I encounter often that I remember so . . . it'll be good to set myself up for multiple encounters! I have some kids' books that I'm going to read--they're graded readers so shouldn't have too many odd "bow-wow" type words in them. I think I'll count them the same as mangas, i.e. 5 pages = one "real" page. The amount of text on a page is roughly the same as mangas I've seen. @Jinx: glad you're joining in too. That hadn't even occurred to me, because I'm not really at the book stage, and I was hoping that any reading I did would be accompanied by audio. But funnily enough, I did read a Dutch children`s book this morning (it was 45 pages, but had a fairly low word density.) Maybe it's a sign.
