What I'm looking for is a novel or book of any kind written in Spanish that starts out at
a very basic level and progressively gets more complex, like it was written for beginners. That kind of thing has been VERY useful to me in the past. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

I recall reading about Spanish books that start in English and successively replace some words with Spanish. It is
done so that you can always understand the new words from context, so ideally all you have to do is to keep reading and at the end, you're reading a book in 100% Spanish. Well it was for Esperanto, I'm not sure if you would ever be interested, but with the novel and some basic courses and talking to other speakers, you could probably achieve basic or even advanced fluency within 3-4 months. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

Here is the book you need (I actually used it when I started Spanish).
The first part is a story about a boy and a girl, then you move on to the second part about the history of Mexico, and finally you end up reading a famous Spanish novel: Easy Spanish Reader Edited by translator2 on 13 May 2011 at 11:16pm 3 persons have voted this message useful | ||||||

I, too, have used the "Easy Spanish Reader". What I liked better were the "Stories From..."series, e.g. "Stories From Mexico". "Stories From Spain", "Stories From Puerto Rico". These are dual language books, with English on one page opposite the Spanish page. There is also one called "First Spanish Reader". The "Stories From " series is more modernized and has illustrations. I hope this helps.

I remember having many "Magic Schoolbus" books in Spanish when I was little, so maybe you would like those. I also had some "Junie B. Jones" books in Spanish as well. Both are written for elementary kids and might be useful.
