Of course - you grade each word according to how "well" you know it (the version I'm using has a four step scale: "Again," "Hard", "Good" and "Easy", with 1-4 as the shortcut keys). Words you don't know at all will show up soon, while those you know very well take a long time to show up again. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

If your goal is to learn Mandarin pinyin and hanzi, then flashcards are "the only way to fly" IMHO. 1 person has voted this message useful | ||||||

YMMV. When I learned Chinese, I used word lists. The problem with flashcards is that they don't prompt you to write the character (aside from the moment when you first create the card). In my case with Chinese it was absolutely critical to write, write, write, in order for the characters to sink in deeply. I don't like flashcards

And if you adjust preferences Anki will never show "very easy" words again. I have set Deck properties -> advanced -> initial button 4 interval to 9999 days. At moment I have a project of learning to recognize 10000 most frequent words of Spanish. The Anki deck has 8659 cards. After going through first 2000 words in six days and 20 hours, I have found out that there was 55 % of words I knew already, 21 % of words there easy to learn and 24 % (488) were hard to learn. (I have set leech threshold to 7, so that is my definition of a hard word. Currently there is 277 suspended cards, which I try to handle in smaller chunks of 20-30.) My goal is to recognize over 90 % of the words in that dictionary. When I started the project I hoped that the challenge would boost my reading and listening comprehension skills from A2/B1 to B2. During last few days I have noticed such improvement that I have started to dream about C1 reading and listening. But we will see. I can't stand vocabulary cards, they're way too dull for me. Language learning is supposed to be fun.
