I fell slightly short of my goal ("only" 75 hours instead of the 84 I was going for), but I just took the French placement test on hueber.de and was only 4 points shy of being placed in an A2.2 level class. Based on the fact that I seem to have taught myself the basics of a language from scratch -- something I've never done before -- I hereby declare it to be a success.
Time to watch some French in Action!
PS. Just wanted to add one more "thanks" for Sprachprofi's efforts -- the challenge together with the bot were incredibly motivating!

I guess it's time for a resumé.
The 6wc came at a perfect time for me, because I spent the whole of August in Korea, attending a language course for the first three weeks and travelling the country in the last week, mostly staying with people who couldn't or wouldn't speak English and having lots of random conversations on the streets.
I definitely feel that my Korean improved noticeably. At the beginning I couldn't speak well. I was able to communicate somehow, but my spoken language was pretty ungrammatical and it took a lot of guesswork on the part of a listener to understand what I was talking about. At the end of my stay my talking speed had increased, the grammar wasn't quite as messed up and my concentration improved. My reading speed and listening also improved a bit, especially regarding handwriting and non-standard speech. Although I didn't focus on learning vocabulary, I learned probably more than 50 new words actively and some more passively. I'd say my level was a high A2/low B1 when I went to Korea and now it's a solid B1.
I'm impressed that you all kept a very strict count on time spent studying, taking into account different levels of concentration and slight pauses. If I had done the same I might have ended up with less time. As it is, I could only make estimates about time spent listening and in conversation, because I was basically immersed in the language, picking up things here and there all the time. Also, my "full-time" working status on the twitter chart is obviously wrong. Somehow I misunderstood that it would mean studying full-time. I had to focus on studying for a different exam as well, but dedicated most of my time to Korean anyway.
Finally I want to thank you all for adding to my motivation to study. I was pretty motivated to begin with, but seeing your progress added incentive when I felt exhausted. I hope there will be another 6 week language challenge soon!

Congratulations, Abdalan, AnyaPop and Ally_kk! They are the top three scorers
when it comes to focusing on their target language. Abdalan and AnyaPop each invested
more than 200 hours. Please let us know what this 6 Week Challenge was like for you,
how much
you learned and how you managed to spend so much time on language-learning.
Congratulations also to smallwhite_hk and JPP4 who made the top 3 in terms of
total hours spent studying.
Congratulations to everyone who gave it their best shot - we all have different
time constraints, and real life has a way of interfering, but if you studied more than
you otherwise would in this time frame then you are a winner.
The next 6WC will be in November. Meanwhile, follow the Tadoku Challenge - read more or
die! http://readmod.wordpress.com

Hello, I am AnyaPop on Twitter.
I would like to thank Sprachprofi for organizing this challenge (as well as May challenge). I feel my German (May 6WC) and Japanese (August 6WC) improved. My main activity was reading textbooks (“Methode90” for German, “Assimil” and “Langue pour tous” for Japanese, all in French) and listening a lot for corresponding recording. As a result, I recognize now more worlds in films and texts, so I feel my listening and reading comprehension improved.
As for the time organization, I was trying to do some listening-reading during the morning, but the most time was spent in the evenings and holydays. Sunday, for example, I was walking a lot, listening for the recordings.
I am looking forward for the next challenge!

As always, I'm blown away by the hours people manage to put in and the progress they make in this challenge. Everyone who participated deserves a boisterous round of applause. :)
Big congratulations to Abdalan, in particular, who came out top in both target language and total study hours this time round, and a standing ovation for Sprachprofi once again for making it all happen!

Sprachprofi, thank you so much for putting this together.
While I didn't do as much as I wanted, I definitely studied more than I ever would without it. It definitely made me realize that I could push myself in learning a language and I could handle it.
This has been a fantastic experience and I look forward to the next one!

The Challenge itself didn't work as expected for me, but I got one really good thing out of it - in order to boost my score I had my portable mp3 player on me all day when I'm not at home, and to boost that even further I started walking and exercising at the park. Normally I don't exercise at all, but now I go to the park about 3 times a week, chorusing or just listening to mp3. It's not boring or tiring as I would have thought, and I feel a lot healthier than before.
I also became aware of some bad study habits I had, and am starting to change them.
Thank you, Sprachprofi!
