Ironically, for a challenge which is based on the principle of studying as much as you can, I think the most important lesson I have learned is that I need to chill out and just study as much as I want!
I've learned to love the German language. I haven't made exceptional progress, but I now have an overview of the most important features of the language and, in my own estimation, have gone from knowing practically nothing to knowing...something! I can spell German words with reasonable accuracy and my pronunciation (for somebody who has no natural discernable talent) is not too bad. I can form basic sentences, handle the future tense and past tense (to some degree) and handle modal verbs. I can make comparisons and have a certain amount of fun with adjectives. I understand things like the case system and separable verbs in theory, but I think it will take me a bit longer to get it in practice. I've also had quite a bit of fun making connections between what I've been learning about German and what I already know about French and Japanese. My husband has also been taking part (twistedlogic1 on Twitter) but is unlikely to post here. He was a bit of a slow starter, but he's really surprised me by going from being a stereotypical Brit convinced he is no good at languages, to actually sitting down with German for 1-2 hours nearly every day. 3 persons have voted this message useful | |||

The 6WC has also taught me to estimate time better :D It used to be tiring to keep track of the minutes spent, but now I can usually tell how much time has passed. 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

It was surely fun to take part in the 6WC. For me, it was a strong motivation to study each day. I wouldn't say I made really significant progress but I feel I'm on the right way.

This is my first 6-week challenge, and it's definitely forced me to focus more. I tend
to day dream and drift off a lot, especially when I'm studying a language. I put pressure on myself to keep my focus tight so that I could honestly record a fifteen or thirty- minute chunk of time. What were the final scores ? As a slight aside, I just totalled my study from the 1st of August to the 12th of September, and it came to 127 hours. Would I have been in the running ? 1 person has voted this message useful | |||

Is that on one language or all languages combined? 127 hours is impressive anyway. Top target-language scores (the one language that people focussed on): 1. The February and May 6WCs were absolute disasters, February because of illness and personal stress which caused me to drop out, May because of my brother visiting. For those reasons I got maybe 25 hours total for both months. August was one of my better 6WCs, but I focused on improving my Finnish and didn't learn French. Maybe I'll learn either Hungarian or Hindi for the November challenge, if I do it at all. I know I will miss one week in November since I will be out of town babysitting two of my nephews.
