Well I don't think I could ask for more thourough..
Thank you very much. I am going to do exctly this, and when I am done with advanced assimil, I will probably be able to watch the 10 seasons of friends in German first with subs, then without and then I'll try to take a trip in Germany or austria and I think that will get me pretty far !
It's all settled now thanks a lot, I was a bit lost.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned Deutsche Welle! They have loads of free material for learning German, including a video series for advanced beginners which you can watch with or without German subtitles.Deutsche Welle.
