What’s the purpose of this thread?
Linguaphone is one of my favourite language courses. I’ve spent quite a lot of time trying to hunt down old courses
and books. It is a confusing task. The company was originally started over a 100 years ago, and over the years they
have published several generations of their courses. When looking for books in such places as Abebooks.com, it is
difficult to distinguish one generation from another. Some of the courses have been republished several times with
only minor changes. Some of the books completely lack any information about the author and publishing date. The
purpose of this thread is to gather information in order to make it easier to find the course you're looking for.

Feel free to contribute to this thread.

For Linguaphone/Teach Yourself Czech, I notice there's a thread (copy and paste URL, deleting any spaces
inserted by the forum software) http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?
TID=24485&PN=1&TPN=1 about the somewhat disappointing content/packaging.

(That thread was just updated today, and was almost above yours in the "active topics" listings.)

Linguaphone French (probably from the 1950s or 1960s, 50 lessons)

Author: Charles Bassomprierre, Jacques B. Brunius, Louis Pallier et al.
First published: n/a
Number of lessons: 50

Books:
– Cours de français *
– French Course: Explanatory Notes
– French Course: Vocabularies and Text of Sounds Record

* My copy is called "Cours de français: Édition por les écoles". The chapters are the same as in the two other
books. I therefore suspect the content of the "édition pour les écoles" and the "ordinary" French course from the
same period to be identical.

This course is very similar to the 50 lessons German course. Most of the illustrations are the
same and the lessons almost identical.

Audio:
– 15 records (according to the preface)
