Thanks again emk! I'm looking forward to learning these signs, once I figure out how to import the files. I'm also having a lot of fun with the Assimil course, and it brought a smile to my face to immediately understand the transliterated words you mentioned above, as well as see their hieroglyphs flash before my minds eye! :)

Carry on Cleo: Week 3
Total hours of study so far: 6 (Assimil's "L'Égyptien hiéroglyphique", rebooting with another methodology) As things have been incredibly busy over the last week, I've been hitting the sack late each night without even a second's thought for bedtime reading. This is to be expectected however; the "Carry on Cleo" project isn't about aiming for consistency in study (like I'm hoping to achieve in Latin), but rather, filling in a small portion of my "dead time" (unused hours) with an otherwise cool "dead language" from time to time. Carry on Cleo: Week 4
Total hours of study so far: 10 (Assimil's "L'Égyptien hiéroglyphique", 12/101 chapters started, 8 completed) I'm really enjoying this book and am learning all kinds of interesting little facts along the way. For example, I discovered only yesterday that the word "paper" originates from a distortion of the Ancient Egyptian words for "royal plant"! My wife is a native French speaker who has always been fascinated by ancient Egypt. So we

Carry on Cleo: Week 5
Total hours of study so far: 10 (Assimil's "L'Égyptien hiéroglyphique", 12/101 chapters started, 8 completed) With all the preparations for the big move next week, I've been simply too exhausted to do any additional bedtime reading at the end of each day. In fact, I don't even have a bedside lamp or bed anymore...it's all packed away in long-term storage (lol). Week 1 (2013)
Lesson (Assimil): 10 / 101 It's been 7 months since I dug up any new hieroglyphics, and once again the temptation to do a little Middle Egyptian bedtime reading has crept up and overpowered me like some ancient magical curse. Starting anew from the first lesson of Assimil's "L'Égyptien hiéroglyphique", I'm somehow already up to lesson 10 over the last week. My method is much simpler this time around as well: I read the hieroglyphics for each chapter 3 times (using the parallel text and transliteration where needed earlier on in the game), and skim some of the French notes along the way. I'm not sure whether these nighttime wander-ings are going to last for long, but whilst they do, I'll keep you updated of any progress. ;) Edited by Teango on 13 April 2013 at 5:42am 1 person has voted this message useful |
