Hello everyone! I'm glad to see that the forum's back up.
I've been keeping a language learning log on my blog.

My goal is to reach C1 fluency in German. It will be a long road. :D

Anyways, I started a video project for August, so I haven't had as much time to work on my German, however, today's topic allowed me to finally make a video of myself speaking German (a big thing for me - I have some social anxiety issues, that I'm slowly but surely overcoming).

My video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OTuZLfbenk

If anyone could give me some constructive criticism, that would be great. I already saw some mistakes while watching it after I uploaded it. :P Once I'm done with this video project, my plan is to do the 100 essays challenge but I'd like to make some videos for some of the topics I write about.

Has anyone else had any success using youtube videos to practice their TL?

Still finishing off this video project. I'm getting antsy. I want to really get back into my German. :( But I want to prove to myself that I can finish something like this, too.

I do have some language-related challenges set up for myself once August is over. Besides the 100 essay challenge that I want to do, I'd also like to do a modified Super Challenges (unofficially, of course). I'm going for 100 movies and 25 books. I know, big jump from 100 to 25, but I think that's all that my schedule will allow for now. :/

I'll post again after VEDA's over.

Hi Expowarrior,

A teacher of German whom I have a lot of respect for once said to a class I was in:

"Jeden Tag, etwas Deutsch".

I must admit, I don't always manage this, but I feel guilty whenever I don't. :)

The "take-home" lesson is I suppose that even a little can mount up, if done
consistently. 1 noun and 1 verb a day, for example? You could join us on the
consistency thread, for example.

Good luck anyway.

I've just watched your video and it's really good. Your pronunciation is excellent, I've already met English native speakers who spoke German with more fluency than you but were much more difficult to understand so I think here you have a great advantage. And the rest will come with practise, I've got no doubt that you will soon speak German on a C1 level.

Thank you every one! Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I finished my video project, and now have been uploading a video every Monday. My most recent one was auf deutsch, and when I compare it to the one I did in August, I think it sounds a bit better - though my editing was terrible for the video. :P

I enrolled in a German conversation class at the 'German Texan Heritage Society'. I feel like the class is a little bit above my level, but I find this to be really helpful and encouraging for me. I never feel bored in class and it motivates me during the rest of the week (the class meets every Thursday night).

I have been posting one essay per week - my next one is due tomorrow! I post my essays on a blog I made for them here: htttp://www.germanessays.blogspot.com and I post them on lang-8 for corrections.

One of my German language-learning idols (xxMariaathenaxx on youtube) suggested that I talk to myself, so I've been trying to incorporate that more in my life. It was hard at first - I'm so used to talking to myself in English, but It's getting easier with practice.

Thank you so much, again, everyone. Your comments are really encouraging! :D

It's very encouraging to see a fellow German learner..
I used to devote nearly all of my time to learning German back in 2009... And have come back to learning German now that I have much free time before starting my military service.

Back then I used to post a few videos in German, which you can check out here

Viel Glück! :D

On talking to oneself: I think it's good if you can do it.
Personally, I'm not good at it.
I run out of things to say! :-)

I'm a fan of reading out loud though.

There is also "shadowing", which you may know about, or if not, try searching the
forum, or look for Professor Arguelles talking about it on YouTube.

Again, I don't find it all that easy, but people speak highly of it, so it's something
I'll probably revisit when I can muster the energy! :)
