Hello napolean,

I congratulate on your wonderful progress in French, especially spoken.

I am a beginner in French and have the Assimil course and I use Duolingo. After my exams,
I will start learning at full speed..But it is very difficult to buy French books here,
as they are costly. So how did you acquire them?

@linguaholic_ch: My spoken french needs a lot of work. :-) But, thank you.

It is impossible to get books in french here. You can always buy books from abroad, but the shipping costs are usually more than the price of the book itself.
So, I usually read on my tablet.

So did you buy them from abroad? If you live in Kolkata, you will find a bookstore called
OCM books under Goyal Publishers. They sell language books. But the books like Grammmaire
Progressive from CLE are costly, alsmost 750.

I bought the Assimil books directly from Goyal's website.
The CLE books, I got second hand through infibeam.com.
Then, I got the FSI French books printed from a print shop near Jadavpur Univ. I have also had a good experience with the print shops near Sealdah Railway Station. These shops usually charge 40-50 paise per page, and another 20 rupees for binding the book.

Thank you for your help. I will look out for the one in Sealdah. Where do you buy the
story books and novels from? I will look forward for the second hand books. Thank you
again.

A lot of classics have gone out of copyright and are available online.
Two of my favourites are:
Le comte de Monte-Cristo
Le Petit Prince

I would also recommend amazon.com/amazon.co.uk and maybe the .fr site.
The shipping cost from at least the uk site is reasonable (esp if you are buying
multiple books).

Also keep an eye out for used/new books from secondhand resellers on amazon.co.uk.
Sometimes their prices are very low (especially for older editions). And for resellers
shipping is usually 750 INR.

And naturally, also check amazon.in, flipkart.
